The second episode of Harley Quinn Season 5 explores the origins of Poison Ivy (voiced by Lake Bell), explaining how the brilliant undergrad Pamela Isley became the green-skinned villain. Until now, the series had dropped hints about Pamela’s lab accident, overlapping her TV show transformation with her classic DC Comics persona. However, the latest episode draws inspiration from the post-Infinite Crisis continuity, revealing there was no accident. Ivy gained her powers due to a devious murder attempt at the hands of Jason Woodrue (voiced by John Slattery), Pamela’s former college teacher and lover. This deep and personal betrayal ultimately thrusts Pamela into a life of eco-crimes, shaping the woman she came to be.

Adding Jason Woodrue to Season 5 of Harley Quinn amps the series’ emotional stakes as it forces Pamela to confront her painful past. However, his presence is also meaningful because Woodrue is best known as the Floronic Man, a DC Comics villain with close ties to Swamp Thing.

Who Is DC’s Floronic Man?

Jason Woodrue’s path from mad scientist to plant-human hybrid spans over six decades of DC Comics history. First appearing in The Atom #1 (1962), Woodrue was introduced as the Plant Master, an exile from a dimension called Floria who used his botanical knowledge to control plant life. His most significant transformation came in 1976 when he used an experimental formula to become the Floronic Man, a being composed of vegetable matter with the ability to mentally control plants.

While Woodrue fought various heroes over the years, his most meaningful role came during Alan Moore’s legendary run on The Saga of the Swamp Thing. In this story, Woodrue made a groundbreaking discovery that changed DC Comics forever: Swamp Thing wasn’t actually Alec Holland transformed into a plant creature but rather an intelligent plant that had absorbed Holland’s memories and consciousness. This revelation redefined Swamp Thing’s character and established Woodrue’s deep connection to “the Green,” a mystical force connecting all plant life on Earth.

The relationship between Woodrue and Swamp Thing grew more complex when the Floronic Man attempted to use his connection to the Green to destroy all human life on Earth. After suffering a mental breakdown from his communion with the Green, Woodrue was captured by the Justice League and imprisoned in Arkham Asylum. Later, Neil Gaiman’s Black Orchid mini-series established that Woodrue had been a university professor who taught botany to Alec Holland and Pamela Isley, among others, connecting the three plant-based DC characters.

In the post-Infinite Crisis continuity, Woodrue took on the identity of the Seeder, gaining new powers from the Green but still falling short of Swamp Thing’s full capabilities as the Avatar of the Green. This storyline culminated in a battle between Woodrue and Swamp Thing for the title of Avatar, which Woodrue briefly held before being defeated. This new continuity also ties Poison Ivy’s villainous to Jason Woodrue.

Harley Quinn Season 5 Remixes Poison Ivy’s History with Jason Woodrue

Poison Ivy in the Harley Quinn TV show

The post-Infinite Crisis continuity expanded on Pamela Isley’s and Jason Woodrue’s connection by revealing that Woodrue was directly responsible for her transformation into Poison Ivy. This backstory echoes elements from the 1997 film Batman & Robin, where John Glover’s Woodrue attempted to murder Isley, inadvertently creating Poison Ivy instead. The comics incorporated this dramatic betrayal by painting Pamela as a naive student who lets herself be seduced by Jason, her teacher, becoming his lab rat for several unethical experiments that shatter her mind.

Season 5 of Harley Quinn reuses the post-Infinite Crisis story, getting rid of its most problematic aspects. As in the comic books, Pamela and Jason are also romantically entangled in the TV show. However, the show underlines how Pamela is already a confident scientist, a far cry from her easy-to-manipulate comic book counterpart. In the show, Jason discovers Pamela has managed to split the DNA of a plant, Frank (voiced by JB Smoove). Jason wants to steal Pamela’s experiment, and when she refuses, he traps her in the lab after releasing poisonous gas. Pamela is forced to inject herself with plant DNA to survive, becoming Poison Ivy.

The Jason Woodrue version of Harley Quinn is among the evilest in the character’s history. He betrays Pamela, a woman he claimed to love, for nothing more than scientific fame. It’s a petty motive for an awful crime, which explains why Ivy was shocked to meet Jason again. Unfortunately for Ivy, her troubles have just begun, as she just turns Jason into the Floronic Man in the TV show, echoing what happened to her many years prior. She might need to weaponize that White Kryptonite, after all.

New episodes of Harley Quinn Season 5 premiere on Max every Thursday.

One of the most popular sitcoms out there is The Big Bang Theory, no doubt about it. Over the course of 12 seasons, the show won several Emmy awards and built a very solid fan base. However, it’s undeniable that not everyone connects with its premise, as the show’s theme, with its numerous references to science and geek culture, is quite specific and appeals to a niche audience. Still, with its huge success, you’ll definitely find people who are curious and want to dive into this world, which even led to a well-loved spin-off and another one already in the works.

With 279 episodes about a group of brilliant, but socially awkward, scientists figuring out life and relationships, The Big Bang Theory has some of the most captivating moments to get hooked on. Since you don’t have to really watch the seires in order, we’ve selected the best ones to make anyone become a fan of the show straight away – even if you’re not fluent in Klingon or quantum physics.

“The Staircase Implementation” (Season 3, Episode 22)

cbs

In this episode, the origins of all the relationships are revealed, making it unnecessary to start with The Big Bang Theory‘s pilot (though Sheldon and Leonard’s friendship wasn’t thoroughly detailed at first). After a fight with his flatmate Sheldon, Leonard takes refuge in Penny’s apartment. During their chat, he reminisces about meeting Sheldon, Howard, and Raj, while also unraveling the story behind the building’s famously broken elevator from seven years ago. If you’re looking for an alternative and more engaging way to dive into the sitcom, this episode is the perfect pick, offering the most detailed glimpse into how the gang originally came together.

“The Convention Conundrum” (Season 7, Episode 14)

cbs

Sheldon will stop at nothing to prove his point. When he can’t score tickets to San Diego Comic-Con, he takes matters into his own hands and starts planning his own convention. Along the way, he manages to rope in James Earl Jones, the iconic voice of Darth Vader, as a guest speaker. This partnership leads to a hilariously unexpected night out, complete with karaoke and a prank involving ringing Carrie Fisher’s doorbell. Meanwhile, Leonard, Howard, and Raj, still determined to attend Comic-Con, toy with the idea of buying tickets from resellers but are paralyzed by the fear of being banned from the event for life. This episode is a love letter to pop and geek culture – the backbone of the sitcom and its characters. It’s a blast to watch, especially with the awesome cameos from two big Star Wars icons.

“The 43 Peculiarity” (Season 6, Episode 8)

cbs

The story here is all about figuring out what Sheldon does during his daily 20-minute break at Caltech, the university the gang attends. Howard and Raj go to great lengths to uncover this secret throughout the episode, but even when they ask, they don’t get any answers. Eventually, they crack the mystery and find out that Sheldon spends the time doing absolutely nothing in the basement. In the end, the audience is blown away by Sheldon’s cleverness, as he totally knew how to hide what he was really doing every day. The reveal is pretty shocking and will definitely get anyone excited to keep watching the show, especially if you’re into the quirky habits of the iconic main character.

“The Barbarian Sublimation” (Season 2, Episode 3)

cbs

One of the funniest and most iconic episodes featuring Penny, who, even in the early seasons, is just an actress with no clue about the geek world. When she gets frustrated with her career, Sheldon introduces her to MMORPGs, and she quickly becomes hooked to the point that it starts affecting her everyday life. The situation gets so out of hand that Sheldon even pushes her to focus on other activities like exercise, and, eventually, she breaks the addiction. This episode is a meme goldmine, but also highlights the role of women in the geek community and pokes fun at classic gamer habits in a hilarious way.

“The Love Spell Potential” (Season 6, Episode 23)

cbs

The episode centers around Dungeons & Dragons, but the real highlight is Howard’s spot-on impersonations, which make the whole thing way more fun to watch. Penny, Amy, and Bernadette plan a trip to Las Vegas, but it gets canceled after an airport incident. To lift their spirits, the gang comes together to play the RPG, with Howard doing hilarious impressions of Nicolas Cage, Al Pacino, and Christopher Walken. On top of all that, the game sparks a deeper conversation between Amy and Sheldon about their relationship. For new viewers, it’s a great way to get a clear look at their dynamic, as well as how the female characters get totally into a game that’s usually seen as a guy thing.

“The Justice League Recombination” (Season 4, Episode 11)

cbs

Zack is one of those characters who pops in and out of The Big Bang Theory, mostly because of his unstable relationship with Penny. He’s the main focus of this episode, as the gang constantly makes fun of him, thinking he’s not too bright. When Penny gets fed up with this, the couple is invited by the gang to join the New Year’s costume contest at Stuart’s comic book store, dressing up as the Justice League. The event is full of laughs, and it also leads to some personal revelations, like Penny and Leonard’s lingering feelings for each other. Overall, the episode is lighthearted and packed with humor, especially when it comes to the superhero jokes and Zack’s hilarious participation.

“The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis” (Season 2, Episode 11)

cbs

Considered one of the best episodes of The Big Bang Theory, especially for a Christmas marathon, this one puts the spotlight on Sheldon and Penny’s friendship. The plot kicks off when she gives him a Christmas gift: a napkin signed by Leonard Nimoy. Sheldon feels the pressure to give her an equally meaningful gift, so he turns to his friends for help, leading to a series of hilarious situations. The real kicker of the episode, though, is when Sheldon, who rarely shows physical affection, gives Penny a heartfelt hug. It’s a rare and sincere moment that highlights his emotional growth. This gesture perfectly captures the show’s knack for balancing humor with genuinely touching moments.

“The Hawking Excitation” (Season 5, Episode 11)

cbs

Among all the memorable cameos on The Big Bang Theory, one stands out as truly historic: Stephen Hawking. While he wasn’t exactly a stranger to the show, his debut is unforgettable. Sheldon learns that the legendary physicist will be giving a lecture at Caltech, and Howard, who is responsible for maintaining Hawking’s wheelchair equipment, does everything he can to prevent Sheldon from meeting his idol. This leads to a series of hilarious and humiliating tasks, including Sheldon dressing up in a French maid outfit. In the end, Howard helps his friend achieve his dream, since he just wanted to mess with him. But even with all the laughs, the episode really stands out because of the epic interaction with the legendary Hawking.

“The D&D Vortex” (Season 12, Episode 16)

cbs

This episode is packed with cameos, including Wil Wheaton, who became friends with Sheldon and the gang after their rivalry in the earlier seasons. After Sheldon has a mishap on his friend’s science show when he spots the famous William Shatner as a special guest, he later finds out that Wil often has Dungeons & Dragons sessions with Shatner, plus Joe Manganiello, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kevin Smith. Stuart, the comic book store owner, also joins in. Leonard gets invited but is quickly kicked out when Wil thinks he only wanted to join to connect with the celebs. For new viewers, it’s an episode that really shows the gang’s relationship with the supporting characters, who still make a huge impact. Plus, just seeing so many celebs together is pretty awesome on its own.

“The Panty Piñata Polarization” (Season 2, Episode 7)

cbs

The whole “war” dynamic, such a classic trope in movies and shows, also shows up in The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon decides to ban Penny from his apartment for breaking his rules, like sitting in his spot on the couch. This sparks a hilarious series of paybacks, including restricting his access to her restaurant and even sabotaging her laundry routine. It’s a classic example of their unique relationship, where Penny consistently stands up to Sheldon, refusing to let his quirks get the best of her. On top of that, Howard and Raj spend their time tracking down the house where some of the America’s Next Top Model contestants are staying. It’s the perfect episode for a good laugh.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Max.

Well, it looks like Malakai Black might really be leaving AEW.

Fightful Select recently reported that Malakai Black was expected to be finishing up with AEW if he hadn’t already. The departure comes after reported tensions between sides dating back quite some time. Black is the former leader of the House of Black, joining the company in 2021 after leaving WWE. He is a former AEW Tag and Trios Champion with the group that launched Julia Hart’s career. While his contract status has been a hot-button topic, it turns out he had option years after 2025 and, evidently, AEW chose not to pick them up.

The Future of the House of Black in AEW

Hart faced Jamie Hayter in a rematch on AEW Dynamite. In a post-match promo, the former AEW Women’s Champion addressed Hart, laying out an invitation for a rubber match. In said promo, she hinted at the House of Black becoming three members. It was unclear if she misspoke at the time but a spooky vignette quickly cleared that up. Hart, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews are walking through a dreary tunnel as King gives a voiceover.

“For years, we’ve had a voice to guide us; that voice was all but deafening. Now, that voice has gone silent.” Matthews adds, “We are done living in the shadows.” Says Hart, “It’s time to honor ourselves.” According to the group, they have “no rules, no leaders, no gods, no masters, just violence.”

“I think we’ll be okay,” Hart said in an interview with Denise Salcedo about Black’s rumored departure (H/T Wrestling Inc). “Whatever he decides to do with his career is his business. I wish him all the best, no matter what. He has been such a great rock for me. I appreciate everything he’s ever done with me. But also I don’t — the rumors aren’t confirmed or anything, so I don’t know what exactly is going on. Anything could be happening, we don’t know.

So it’s just a matter of fact of whatever happens, happens, and I’m happy for him no matter what happens. And I think House of Black will be okay no matter what happens. I think I’ll keep destroying the women’s locker room, and Brody and Buddy will destroy the men’s locker room. Everything will be okay, and I’m happy for everybody no matter what.”

Black is expected to have heavy interest from other wrestling companies now that he’s a free agent. Stay tuned to ComicBook for updates on AEW and Black’s future.

FOX has revealed their line up of new and returning shows for the Winter 2025 midseason schedule, and unfortunately Bob’s Burgers fans are going to be waiting quite a while before the series makes its comeback. Bob’s Burgers is now in the midst of Season 15 of the series with the final airing taking place last year before the Winter broadcast break. As FOX prepares to return with a new wave of episodes and shows for the midseason schedule of Sunday’s Animation Domination block, and there are some major shake ups to be found. The biggest of which is the lack of Bob’s Burgers.

FOX has announced its midseason line up for the Animation Domination block beginning on February 16th, and it includes Family Guy, Grimsburg, The Great North and Krapopolis. While it had initially seemed like the biggest shake up to FOX’s midseason schedule would be Family Guy temporarily taking The Simpsons‘ time slot at the start of the block, it’s now revealed to be that it’s going to be a much longer wait for Bob’s Burgers as it’s not listed for a return within the first few months of the year.

Bob’s Burgers Won’t Be Back Until After the Winter

As FOX announced, the Animation Domination block will be featuring Family Guy, Grimsburg, The Great North and Krapopolis beginning on February 16th, and The Simpsons will then be making its own return beginning on March 30th. The Simpsons will then go back to leading the block with new episodes of Family Guy, The Great North, and Krapopolis to follow it. But as mentioned, Bob’s Burgers is left off the schedule completely with no current release window or date for Season 15’s return as of the time of this publication.

It means that fans will be waiting until the midseason schedule ends its run, and potentially might not even get to see Bob’s Burgers return in full until much later in the year. As the series is still in the middle of Season 15, there are a few more episodes to air before it can come back for a potential Season 16 (which is currently unconfirmed as of the time of this publication as well). That could mean that a Fall 2025 return for the series would be too long of a wait, and maybe we’ll see forward momentum on these final episodes heading into the Summer.

20th Television Animation

How to Watch Bob’s Burgers

If you wanted to catch up with Bob’s Burgers Season 15 thus far, you can currently find the ten currently available episodes now streaming exclusively with Hulu. It’s also where you can find all previous seasons of the series if you just want to spend this time to watch your old favorites over again instead. But you really should catch up with the latest season if you have missed it as Season 15 has been one of the strongest in recent memory.

Bob’s Burgers seems to only be getting better with age as each new episode offers a fun new look at each of its characters, and the team behind it all has also found a new rhythm to explore. The Bob’s Burgers Movie was a great example of the creativity behind this animated franchise, and the TV series itself has only gotten stronger. That’s a rare feat for an animated series following up a movie project, so you really should catch up to make sure you’re not missing out.

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay Tag Team for AEW Grand Slam

At AEW Grand Slam in Brisbane, Australia, long-term rivals Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega are teaming up against the Don Callis Family.

To open tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay and Omega had a standoff with one another. As things got heated, Konosuke Takeshita, Brian Cage, Lance Archer, and Kyle Fletcher used it as an opportunity to attack. The fight spilled out all over the arena, ending when Ospreay and Omega threw Archer through a merchandise table.

The two climbed up high, moonsaulting off the pillars onto the group. As the Don Callis Family retreated, they climbed back up again and Omega laid out a challenge for Takeshita, Fletcher, Ospreay, and himself at AEW Grand Slam on February 15th.

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay’s Unlikely Tag Team

The fight is likely the anchor point to two separate stories. Firstly, there is a rematch between Omega and Takeshita taking shape. Currently, “The Alpha” is the AEW International Champion. While fans are clamoring for Omega to have a spot in the world title picture, it looks like he’s shifting his focus for now.

Then there’s Ospreay and Fletcher, former teammates who fought each other late last year. Both men are 1-1 in their feud, if Ospreay is trying to get to the next level, putting Fletcher in the backseat is the priority for now. Despite their decorated history, it’s surprising the two wrestling giants haven’t teamed together in their careers. Whether in New Japan Pro Wrestling or AEW, it’s certainly different but welcomed.

Plus, it doesn’t look like rekindling their feud down the line is off the table. Omega coming back from a life-threatening injury puts his career into perspective. Squeezing out those last dream matches, feuds, and storylines before he hangs up his boots for good is paramount.

Thus far, AEW Grand Slam has one other confirmed match — Toni Storm vs. Mariah May for the Women’s World Championship. Despite having faced off in the past, Storm has a case of amnesia that is causing her to forget the last year of her career. But is that just another iconic performance by Mrs. Timeless Toni Storm? What tricks does the former multi-time Women’s Champion have up her sleeve? Only time will tell.

Stay tuned to ComicBook for updates on AEW and AEW Grand Slam.

It’s safe to say that streaming services are way beyond frustrating at this point. The promise of having countless movies and TV shows at your fingertips has been steadily outweighed by constant price increases and titles you love being pulled at a moment’s notice. Just this week Netflix announced another price hike, and that’s on the heels of the big Disney+/Hulu increase from the end of last year. Getting quality entertainment has become expensive, especially if you want to avoid ads (though the ad-supported likes of Tubi and Pluto TV are great alternatives).

Fortunately, there’s a good service out there with an incredible film library that doesn’t cost a cent. It also doesn’t have ads breaking up the movies. While it may sound too good to be true, I promise this is a real service. It’s called Kanopy.

Kanopy, from the company Overdrive, is a service that actually partners with public libraries around the country to bring cinema to everyone, free of charge. The only “catch” to using it is that you need to sign up for a library card, provided your local library is enrolled (most major public library systems are).

Once you sign up for Kanopy, everything is free to check out. You get a number of “tickets” added to your account, and that number resets each month. For example, I get 30 tickets a month to watch movies or shows on Kanopy. A regular film rental usually costs two tickets, though every now and then a really popular title will cost four. Like an on-demand rental, I’ll have that movie available to me for 48-72 hours after checking it out. This part changes from library to library. You might get more tickets or the cost of titles might be different, but it’s the same system.

That’s it. That’s Kanopy in a nutshell. It’s completely free, very easy to use, and it supports public libraries. Not to mention it’s got a great lineup of films and shows from all decades, genres, and parts of the world.

Kanopy has several popular films from A24 and Neon, as well as some classic Hollywood entries and acclaimed documentaries. There’s a goal with this library to educate through film, so there’s a lot to explore, but there are also tons of movies you’re already familiar with.

Here’s a list of just a few titles currently available on Kanopy, that’ll hopefully show you just how varied its lineup really is: Point Break, Punch-Drunk Love, Gladiator, Drive, The Third Man, Oldboy, Hundreds of Beavers, Titanic, Past Lives, Anatomy of a Fall, the original Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Apartment, Train to Busan, Eraserhead, Wayne’s World, Ella Enchanted, His Girl Friday, Some Like It Hot, and so many more.

Kanopy also has a loaded roster of British TV shows from the BBC that can be harder to find other places here in the States. And like other streaming service, Kanopy is adding and dropping titles on a monthly basis, keeping its roster fresh and new.

From popular blockbusters to hidden treasures you didn’t know you needed, Kanopy has something for everyone. And unlike Netflix, there aren’t going to be any price hikes thrown at you when you least expect them. This is an actual service, in the truest sense of the word, and you definitely need to give it a try.

You can sign up with your library card now at kanopy.com.

Peter Griffin’s “It insists upon itself” criticism for The Godfather has really taken off online, so the original creator behind Family Guy revealed the real origin story behind the iconic line. In the Season 4 episode, “Untitled Griffin Family History,” the Griffin Family hides away in a panic room in the attic (as Peter was inspired by watching The Butterfly Effect and wanting to get away from the movie), and Peter passes the time by telling the story about the Griffin’s family history. But the most iconic scene comes towards the end as the Griffin Family thinks they are all going to die.

In Peter’s final confession to the rest of his family, he states that he did “not care” for the famous Francis Ford Coppola feature film, The Godfather. When the rest of the family asks him why, Peter’s defense is that he feels it “insists upon itself.” This clip had been gaining more traction on social media as one fan thought it was a proper critique to use, and Family Guy series creator Seth MacFarlane explained on social media that “It insists upon itself” actually came from his college film history professor.

“It Insists Upon Itself” Scene Explained

“Since this has been trending, here’s a fun fact,” MacFarlane stated on X. “‘It insists upon itself’ was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn’t think ‘The Sound of Music’ was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one.” The scene has been a fairly popular one since it was first seen back in Season 4, and has been popping up online here and there. It started taking off again when a fan had claimed it was a good argument to make, and MacFarlane’s explanation of the origin seems to indicate the opposite. That Peter looks foolish for making such an argument when he hasn’t even finished seeing the movie.

It always seemed to be the core of the joke that Peter was dismissive of The Godfather despite the rest of the family trying to tell him about all of its good qualities, and it even was one of the rare scenes where the rest of the family can hear and understand Stewie as they all join in on the argument. This scene in particular has even returned to Family Guy as one of the many hallucinations that Peter had when he was in a coma during the Season 18 episode, “Coma Guy.” So even after all these years it seems the Family Guy team loves “It insists upon itself” just as much as fans do.

What’s Next for Family Guy?

Family Guy is finally scheduled to be making its comeback with new episodes later this Winter. Family Guy Season 23 was originally slated to return with many of the other Animaiton Domination favorites on FOX in the Fall 2024 season, but had been moved to the Winter 2025 midseason schedule instead. Now after much waiting for these new episodes, they will finally be making their debut with FOX on Sunday, February 16th at 8:00PM EST (temporarily taking The Simpsons’ spot in the FOX Sunday evening line up).

As Family Guy celebrates its 25th anniversary, you can currently catch up with all of the episodes released thus far now exclusively streaming with Hulu. The streaming service also has an exclusive Halloween and Christmas special that released last year as well, so Family Guy still has quite a lot for fans to enjoy before the new episodes hit next month.

Every single month brings changes to Netflix’s streaming lineup here in the United States, as the streaming giant is constantly adding and removing titles as licenses renew and expire. Each time Netflix releases its monthly newsletter of upcoming new additions, the excitement about what’s to come is always joined by the disappointing list of titles that are set to leave its roster in the coming weeks. This February is no different.

On Wednesday, Netflix released its newsletter for February 2025, revealing all of the new additions set to be made throughout the month. The newsletter also included the titles that will be departing in February, and there are a couple of massive movies on their way out.

On February 11th, which is just in a couple of weeks, Netflix will be losing a total of five movies in the Fast & Furious franchise, including the acclaimed Fast Five. That day alone will mark a huge loss for action fans with a Netflix subscription, especially since the Transformers films just made their exit last month.

Unfortunately, Fast Five isn’t the only generational blockbuster set to depart Netflix in February. On the last day of the month, the service will be losing Christopher Nolan’s Inception, which still stands as one of the best original tentpoles in a number of years.

TV fans will be frustrated about the February changes as well, with a couple of key titles on the way out. After adding two of the later Brooklyn Nine-Nine seasons in February, Netflix will lose the first two seasons of the show at the conclusion of the month. February 28th will also see the departure of all six seasons of The Mindy Project.

The Simpsons aren’t going anywhere as their return to Sunday nights is confirmed with their return date for the final episodes of Season 36 later this year. The Simpsons and Family Guy are about to have a major schedule shake up as Family Guy will be taking over The Simpsons‘ long held time slot of 8:00PM EST on Sunday evenings on Fox. This sparked some confusion online as it seemed like The Simpsons was going to be moving away from Sunday nights entirely for the first time in its nearly 40 year run given the original reported plans for Family Guy, but now it’s confirmed that it’s not the case.

The Simpsons has confirmed its return date on FOX as new episodes will be officially premiering on Sunday, March 30th. It will then be returning to its usual Sunday evening time slot of 8:00PM EST, and then followed by other Animation Domination hits such as Family Guy, The Great North, and Grimsburg. So Family Guy will be temporarily taking The Simpsons‘ time slot for a few weeks starting in February, but The Simpsons thankfully won’t be leaving Sundays after all as initially feared.

The Simpsons Returns in March 2025

When Family Guy was moved away from its Fall 2024 premiere for a new midseason schedule, it was reported at the time that the series would be moving to Wednesday nights to support Animal Control on FOX. When it was later revealed that Family Guy would be returning for Season 23 for FOX’s midseason schedule this Winter, fans were taken by surprise that the animated series would be taking The Simpsons‘ usual time slot for the occasion. This sparked an even bigger conversation.

Somewhere along the way wires were crossed that had some fans thinking that The Simpsons would be leaving Sunday nights entirely, and even potentially moving to Wednesdays instead. As Family Guy later confirmed it will be officially premiering Season 23 of the animated series beginning on February 16th with FOX, it’s now more clear that The Simpsons will then be returning to Sunday evenings after just a few weeks. So there’s no more reason to fear the worst for either of these long running animated franchises. They’re both going to stick around.

What to Know For The Simpsons Season 36

When The Simpsons comes back for its midseason premiere on Sunday, March 30th, the animated series will be picking up right from where it left off with Season 36. This new season kickstarted last Fall, and has already gotten a lot of buzz for its experimental episodes released thus far. Not only has this newest season killed off some long time characters previously seen on the sidelines, but has also had a few fun experimental episodes that have changed the format for the series completely like its season premiere that pretended to be the series finale.

There have also been some big changes behind the scenes as long time star Pamela Hayden has announced her retirement from The Simpsons, with the new voice actor (or actors) for her characters have yet to be announced as of the time of this publication. If you wanted to catch up with the first few episodes of The Simpsons Season 36 thus far, you can check out the series now streaming with Hulu. You can also find the first 35 seasons along with a brand new, exclusive Christmas special now streaming exclusively with Disney+. With the new episodes coming this March, now is the perfect time to catch up.

The all-star cast of NBC’s highly anticipated Suits spinoff continues to grow. Headlined by Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, Suits: L.A. is set to debut on prime time next month, bringing the Suits franchise back to television in the wake of the original show’s unprecedented streaming success. This Los Angeles-set spinoff, dealing with the world of entertainment, has just added several veteran performers to the lineup.

According to a new report from Variety, the trio of Brian Baumgartner, Patton Oswalt, and Enrico Colantoni have all joined the cast of Suits: L.A. in guest starring roles. All three actors will be fictionalized versions of themselves, lining up with the whole entertainment industry angle, sort of like guest stars on Curb Your Enthusiasm or Entourage.

Baumgartner is well known for starring in every season of The Office as chili-spilling accountant and basketball ringer Kevin. Oswalt, a veteran comedian, has appeared on countless shows over the years, including a lengthy stint on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Colantoni most recently starred in Canadian drama series Allegiance, but is perhaps best known for portraying Keith on Veronica Mars.

Amell leads the cast of Suits: L.A. as Ted Black, an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles. The description of the series describes Black’s situation as a tough one, with “his firm at a crisis point, and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”

The series also stars The Walking Dead alum Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg. Perhaps the most exciting news about the show’s cast so far is that it will include original Suits star Gabriel Macht, at least for a few episodes. Macht is set to reprise his role as Harvey Specter in Suits: L.A., scheduled for a three-episode arc. Details about his role on the new show are scarce beyond that, so there’s no way to tell if the arc will lead to more appearances in the future. So far, Macht is the only original Suits star revealed for a guest spot on the new series.

Suits: L.A. comes from Suits creator Aaron Korsh, who will serve as writer and executive producer on the spinoff. While the original series aired all nine of its seasons on USA, Suits: L.A. will move to network television, premiering on NBC February 23rd.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 is only weeks away now, and Amazon MGM Studios just gave us our first look at some new cast members, locations, and other important glimpses of what’s ahead. The fantasy series already has a sprawling ensemble — just like the books it is based on — and so far we’ve had 10 new cast members announced for Season 3. We get to see most of them in these first-look photos published today, along with some exciting hints about where our existing heroes are headed. We may even be getting some fan-favorite scenes that were left out of previous seasons, appearing here out of order from the books.

The Wheel of Time has an uphill battle — adapting a 15-book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, with only eight episodes per season and some heavy setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic when it began. Fans have their issues with various aspects of the show, but most agree that the casting and performances have been excellent. That bodes well for Season 3 and all the new faces in these photos. Read on for first looks and a bit about what we’re seeing in each one.

Aiel

First up, we have Rand (Josha Stradowski), Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and Lan (Daniel Henney) in the Aiel Waste, accompanied by some of our new characters — the Wise Ones Bair (Nukâka Coster-Waldau) and Melaine (Salóme Gunnarsdóttir), along with their clan chief Rhuarc (Björn Landberg). It will be exciting to venture deeper into the waste and spend more time immersed in Aiel culture. They’ve already proven themselves to be some of the most exciting characters in the show, and seeing the spears bristling from their backs never gets old.

Elaida

We also have our first glimpse of Shohreh Aghdashloo as Elaida a’Roihan, a casting choice that fans were pulling for on social media long before it became official. Beside her is Olivia Williams as Queen Morgase Trakand decked out in her royal finery. These two are experts at projecting power in other series like The Expanse and Dune: Prophecy, so they are definitely up to he job they have here.

There are other new cast members not featured in these photos, but we’ve seen some of them in the Season 3 trailer. That includes Callum Kerr as Galad Trakand and Isabella Bucceri as Faiel Bashere, though we only got quick glimpses of them.

Accepted

Next up is a striking shot of Elayne (Ceara Coveney), Egwene (Madeleine Madden), and Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) side-by-side on horseback that will have fans very excited. The trailer gave us a hint about what might be next for these three back at the White Tower, but it’s nice to see them in the outside world as well. Their elaborate garb also indicates that they may be learning to project authority like true Aes Sedai, and their color choices are worth considering as well.

Elayne and Aviendha

Another shot that will raise some eyebrows shows Elayne sharing a drink with Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), and they both seem to be sizing each other up. These two have a lot going on between them in this series, yet the books don’t let them spend too much time together — especially this early on. Seeing them here could set some things up for the future.

Training

This photo may be showing a scene that was sorely missed in Season 1 and Season 2 — Lan training Rand to become a swordmaster. These two should have formed a bond as master and pupil early on, and their practice on a northern towertop was particularly iconic in the books. This sweeping vista might be enough to take its place, and it’s nice to see them using the elaborate stances and forms described in Jordan’s writing.

Moiraine

Moiraine has a hard road ahead of her, and this picture sums up how she will face it. We saw her weaving the One Power around this same orb in the trailer, so it’s clearly an important part of the story ahead.

Mat

As always, Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn) is here to undercut the drama and provide some levity. This shot of him in flamboyant garb alongside Nynaeve and Min (Kae Alexander) seems to promise some time in town, if nothing else. However, shady figures offering cloth-wrapped bundles are usually a bad sign for Mat.

Siuan Sanche

Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), the Amerlin Seat herself should theoretically have the greatest command of the One Power of all the Aes Sedai, and this image might prove it. She should play a bigger and bigger part in the story from here on out, which will delight many fans of her and Moiraine.

Lanfear

The Wheel of Time‘s best villain is back with a new haircut and the same devious smile. Lanfear features heavily in the Season 3 trailer, so it’s hard to guess where she is or what she’s up to in this picture. Judging by the commentary online, some fans will be working extra hard to piece her story together.

Old Friends

Finally, fans will be delighted to see this simple photo of Rand, Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) and Mat together in a casual, non-apocalyptic setting. This series is often promoted as more bright and hopeful than contemporary fantasy series like Game of Thrones, so it’s nice to see that the lighthearted moments aren’t over for good.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 premieres on March 13th, 2025 on Prime Video. The previous two seasons are streaming there now. The complete novel series is available now in print, digital and audiobook formats.

The Punisher has had many memorable moments in movies and television, including three unforgettable standouts. Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, is well-known as one of Marvel’s most uncompromising antiheroes, with his predilection for killing and engaging in far more brutal methods than any Marvel superhero indulges in. Frank Castle has been played in live-action by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, Ray Stevenson, and Jon Bernthal, each of whom has brought a unique interpretation to the character.

With three movies, a solo streaming series, and two crossover appearances with Daredevil on his two streaming shows, the Punisher has made an unforgettable mark on comic book movies and TV. Here are the Punisher’s three greatest moments in movies and TV.

Frank Castle vs. The Russian – The Punisher

The most memorable scene of Jonathan Hensleigh’s 2004 actioner The Punisher is the movie’s wildly brutal yet darkly hilarious fight scene between Thomas Jane’s Frank Castle and the hired hitman known as The Russian (pro-wrestler Kevin Nash.) Taking place in Frank’s Tampa apartment after a pleasant dinner with his new neighbors, Frank is tossed and pummeled around the apartment by the hulking assassin, even narrowly avoiding a hand grenade explosion that the whole building feels.

Set to “La Donna e Mobile”, the fight scene was described during production as “the horrific clown show”, which perfectly captures the fight scene’s blend of humor and brute force. It also didn’t come without some real pain for the actors, with Kevin Nash accidentally being stabbed for real in the fight. In the end, Frank triumphs over his massive adversary, and his fight scene with the Russian continues to stand as one of The Punisher’s best movie moments.

Opening Action Scene – Punisher: War Zone

2008’s Punisher: War Zone saw the late Ray Stevenson take over as Frank Castle in Lexi Alexander’s reboot, and Frank’s new mission kicks off with an blood-splattering start in his raid of a meeting on a criminal compound. Frank enters the meeting like a slasher movie villain, killing the lights and activating a flair to make the presence of the Punisher known before going to work. And, by Punisher standards, going to work involves a lot of knife slashing, limb snapping, neck breaking, and opening fire on the mob while swinging upside down from a chandelier, all in the most over-the-top fashion imaginable.

Punisher: War Zone sadly bombed in theaters upon its release in 2008’s holiday season, but it has since built up a comic book movie cult following, with even comedian Patton Oswalt among its fanbase. Lexi Alexander has spoken many times of striving to bring the cartoonish, absurd levels of gore in the Punisher comics to life in live-action, and few could argue that Punisher: War Zone doesn’t succeed thoroughly in that endeavor. Between the movie’s financial failure and Ray Stevenson’s passing in 2023, Punisher: War Zone was sadly the one and only time he got to show what he could do as the Punisher. Nonetheless, the Marvel cult classic showed he not only captured the essence of Frank Castle splendidly, but also snagged the best entrance of any live-action Punisher, by far.

Daredevil & Punisher’s Rooftop Showdown – Daredevil

For the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jon Bernthal became the newest incarnation of the Punisher, making his debut in Daredevil season 2, before being spun-off into The Punisher series. While Bernthal has given an all-around fantastic performance as Frank with many memorable moments and action scenes, his rooftop scene with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the season 2 episode “New York’s Finest” (S2E3) is his best. While it’s one of the quieter Punisher scenes in any big or small screen iteration, paradoxically, that’s what makes it so great, with the focus being on the differing crime-fighting ideologies of Frank Castle and Matt Murdock.

As Daredevil, Matt seeks to battle the criminals of Hell’s Kitchen with as much mercy as possible, in order to give them a chance “to try again.” However, Matt’s restraint is something that Frank sees as doing more harm than good, since it gives criminals like the ones who murdered his family a chance to prey on the defenseless again. As Frank puts it, “You hit them and they get back up! I hit them, and they stay down!” Daredevil season 2 devotes much of its story to Frank and Matt’s polar opposite methods, but their extended rooftop debate is the real heart of their relationship on the show, and forms a strong foundation for Daredevil and Punisher meeting again in Daredevil: Born Again. Even for all his great Punisher action scenes on Daredevil and in his own series, Jon Bernthal’s most shining moment as Frank Castle remains his rooftop verbal sparring match with The Man Without Fear.

Both seasons of Marvel’s The Punisher can be streamed on Disney+.

Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has outlined his conditions for reprising his role of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. In a wide-spanning interview with Variety that also covered his impending return as Doctor Strange in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, the topic of a possible Sherlock revival was brought up. After teasing that it would take “a lot of money” to get him onboard for another season of the TV show, the Oscar-nominated actor stressed the importance of telling a quality story. “It would take it to be better than it ever was,” Cumberbatch said.

“You leave them or yourselves wanting more,” he added. “There’s always that itch to scratch, but I think it would have to be the superlative version of what we’ve already achieved.”

Alongside Martin Freeman (who played Dr. John Watson), Cumberbatch headlined four seasons of Sherlock, as well as the special episode “The Abominable Bride.” Season 4 premiered back in 2017, and the series has been on ice since then. Last year, Sherlock co-creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat expressed interest in returning — be it for a fifth season or a reunion movie — but both have admitted Freeman and Cumberbatch’s availability is the biggest hurdle. “I’m easy, but you need to get the two big stars. That’s the problem,” Moffat said.

More recently, in December 2024, Moffat made it clear that there are “no hard plans” in place for a Sherlock revival, despite him having an idea for a continuation in mind. If Sherlock were to return, Moffat would want to explore Holmes and Watson “just a little bit older,” bringing the show’s takes on the characters closer to their “famously middle-aged” literary counterparts.

When Sherlock kicked off in 2010, the show received widespread praise. The first three seasons were acclaimed, with many enjoying the dynamic between Cumberbatch and Freeman and the series’ ability to effortlessly update the iconic property in a contemporary setting. However, after Season 3, Sherlock began to lose some steam with critics; “The Abominable Bride” received lukewarm reviews, and Season 4 actually has a “rotten” score on Rotten Tomatoes. This speaks to Cumberbatch’s belief that a Sherlock revival would be worthwhile only if delivers an engaging narrative that rivals the show’s previous heights. It would be a shame if Cumberbatch and Freeman were to make a highly anticipated return, only for it to fall flat and do further damage to the series’ reputation.

Moffat’s aforementioned concept of depicting an older Holmes and Watson has potential. If nothing else, it would at least switch up the formula, catching up with the characters at a different point in their lives. It would be interesting to see how time has changed the companions, giving Cumberbatch and Freeman rich material to explore as they approach familiar roles from a different angle. Of course, even if Moffat and Gatiss are able to write a compelling script, that still wouldn’t fix the issue of the lead actors’ busy schedules. Both continue to have full plates, but it would be great if they were able to find the time to knock out another batch of Sherlock episodes.

Invincible Season 3 will finally be making its debut with Prime Video next month, and the new season will be adding some heavy hitters from the Breaking Bad, Marvel and DC universes for its new episodes. Invincible Season 2 wrapped up its run last year following a few months of a break in between, and thankfully confirmed that Season 3 was already on the way. Not only that, but it’s also been revealed that Invincible Season 3 is not planning a break in between its episodes this time around. So when this new season gets going, it’s not going to stop until the end.

Ahead of the new season’s premiere, Prime Video has announced more of the new voice cast additions coming to Invincible Season 3. These new names will be joining the returning voice cast from the first two seasons, and include some heavy hitting names from Breaking Bad, Marvel projects such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, DC’s Blue Beetle and Netflix’s Cobra Kai, animated franchises like Futurama and Adventure Time, and many more. You can get the details for the newly announced voice cast for Invincible Season 3 below.

With a deep hatred for Invincible, Becky works with Powerplex to deliver justice she believes was denied.

THE ELEPHANT (John DiMaggio)
A serious villain with a serious name and a serious look. He wants the world to stop eating meat. He probably wants other things too. It doesn’t matter as long as he’s taken seriously… By somebody. Please.

MR. LIU (Tzi Ma)
Under this wizened exterior, he’s the ruthless leader of The Order – an international crime syndicate. But that’s not all this mysterious old man is hiding.

FIGHTMASTER & DROPKICK (Xolo Maridueña)
Freedom-fighting twins from a troubled future, they’re willing to risk everything in a desperate quest to save their world.

OLIVER GRAYSON (Christian Convery)
Mark’s younger brother was a toddler last time we saw him, but when you’re half Viltrumite and half Thraxan, you grow up REAL fast.

MULTI-PAUL (Simu Liu)
An elite assassin for Mr. Liu’s secret criminal organization, Multi-Paul took the opposite path of his sister Dupli-Kate. But blood is thicker than water…

But details about Jonathan Banks and Doug Bradley’s new characters are being kept under wraps for now, so fans will really need to keep an eye out for how the new season develops.

The animated series focusing on the Mystery Shack and its employees has long been a fan-favorite since it was first brought to life by Disney in 2012. While the series only garnered two seasons, the show has continued to score new audiences since hitting various streaming services. Unfortunately, Gravity Falls will be removed from one of its biggest platforms in the coming days. While animation fans might not have the chance to watch the Pines’ story on one platform, there’s a silver lining to this cloud when it comes to checking out Gravity Falls. If you want to check out the series in the future, you might want to read on.

Gravity Falls has been a part of the Hulu library for some time, but it appears as though animation fans only have until the end of this month to watch the series on the streaming service. Fans might find this surprising since Disney currently owns the largest stake in Hulu, with the “House of Mouse” having a 67% stake in the platform as of the writing of this article. Previously, Comcast was the main shareholder of the streaming service but in 2023, the reins were shifted to Disney. Luckily, we do have good news for those looking to revisit, or dive into, the Mystery Shack’s tale.

Disney

Gravity Falls Can Still Be Watched

Luckily, Mabel and Dipper’s story can still be experienced on Disney+ for the foreseeable future. This fact always has the potential to change in the future, as it seems that series across all the streaming services can either be removed entirely or jump to new platforms. Gravity Falls also has a box set for the complete series on DVD and Blu-Ray, though finding the latter can be difficult as animation fans have apparently snatched that one up.

Ironically enough, Gravity Falls has continued to highlight some of its characters in some wild ways in recent days. In the Disney animated series, Chibiverse, creator and voice actor Alex Hirsch returned to the roles of Grunkle Stan and Soos. During this episode, the beloved characters interacted with Disney properties including Ducktales, Phineas & Ferb, and Amphibia to make a crossover that many might have missed. Even over a decade since its debut, Gravity Falls remains a fan-favorite and might make future appearances.

The Gravity Falls Revival

For those hoping to see a Gravity Falls comeback, we have good news for you. Last summer, a Disney Executive stated that discussions had taken place between the studio and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. Disney Executive Vice President Meredith Roberts stated the following, “You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never.”

Considering how Gravity Falls originally ended, it makes sense that a revival could arrive at some point. While the series finale was one that had a definitive ending for the scenario that Mabel and Dipper found themselves in, returning to the Mystery Shack for future adventures was also left on the table.

The trailer for Yellowjackets Season 3 shows secrets coming to a boiling point in both of the show’s timelines, leading to more paranoia and bloodshed. The two-minute preview is set to “Bodies” by Drowning Pool — a surprising but fitting choice for this survival drama, with rising political stakes in The Wilderness and guilt-driven attacks in the present day. It also gives us our first look at new cast member Hilary Swank, whose role has not been revealed yet. The show returns on Valentine’s Day with a two-episode season premiereon Paramount+ with Showtime. It will air on the Showtime cable network two days later.

“As summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory — the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued,” reads the official logline for Season 3. “In the present, long-buried secrets from their pasts begin to surface. As the women fight to keep their lives from unraveling, they must confront a chilling question: who are they really, and what dark truths are they hiding from each other and themselves?”

It’s been a long wait for Yellowjackets Season 3, which was ordered way back in December of 2022. The show premiered in November of 2021, followed by Season 2 in March of 2023. It has been a major critical success, with praise for the cast and writers in particular. It has done well in terms of streaming metrics as well, although Paramount+ and Showtime have restructured a bit since the last season premiered. Some fans will likely need to renew their subscriptions if they want to watch.

Aside from Swank, the only other new cast member this season is Joel McHale, who is also playing an undisclosed role as a guest star. Of course, the main players are returning — Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse as Shauna, Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Taissa, Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty as Misty, Ella Purnell as Jackie, Steven Krueger as Coach Ben, and Warren Kole as Jeff. The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Elijah Wood returning as amateur investigator Walter Tattersall.

Yellowjackets is about a high school girls’ soccer team from New Jersey flying to Seattle for a national tournament in 1996. Their plane crashes in the remote wilderness of Canada, and the survivors are stranded for 19 months before some are rescued. The show depicts their struggles while flashing forward to 2021, where those that are rescued try to cope with the experience and keep their secrets from that dark time.

Yellowjackets Season 3 premieres on Friday, February 14th on Paramount+ with Showtime. It premieres on the Showtime cable network on Sunday, February 16th. The previous two seasons are streaming now on Paramount+.

Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist in Marvel Netflix's The Defenders

The success of Marvel’s Netflix universe hinged not just on its leading heroes, but on the rich tapestry of supporting characters who made New York feel alive. Now, as Marvel Studios prepares for the March debut of Daredevil: Born Again, fans across social media are campaigning for the return of Rob Morgan’s Turk Barrett, the street-smart felon who appeared in every series of the Netflix era. From his first encounter with Charlie Cox’s Man without Feear in Daredevil to his final appearance in The Punisher’s second season, Barrett’s mix of criminal vocation and reluctant assistance to heroes made him the unlikely glue holding the street-level universe together while providing crucial links between storylines and valuable information to its vigilante protagonists.

Barrett’s significance to the Marvel/Netflix universe extended far beyond simple comic relief or convenient plot device. Starting as a human trafficker busted by Daredevil in the premiere episode of Daredevil, he evolved into a crucial informant whose finger remained firmly on the pulse of New York’s criminal underground. His dealings stretched from Hell’s Kitchen to Harlem, appearing in pivotal episodes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders while supplying weapons and intel to everyone, from high-powered attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) to the Russian mob.

Morgan’s portrayal of Barrett became particularly memorable through his encounters with each Defender, which often ended with him dangling off rooftops or being thrown into dumpsters. These scenes balanced humor with genuine tension, as Barrett’s self-preservation instincts repeatedly forced him to betray dangerous figures like Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Even when kidnapped by The Hand or caught in the crossfire between Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), Barrett’s ability to survive and adapt while maintaining his distinctive personality made him an essential part of the Marvel/Netflix formula.

Daredevil: Born Again Is Reviving Netflix’s Defenders Universe

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series is committed to honoring the Netflix shows’ legacy, underlining how Turk should be involved with the new show in some measure. What began as a potential soft reboot transformed following a creative overhaul, with the production bringing back numerous fan-favorite characters. Beyond Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, the series reversed its initial decision to exclude Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, confirming their return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively.

The addition of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye further cements Born Again‘s status as a true continuation rather than a reimagining of the Netflix series. In that context, Turk Barrett’s potential return would serve multiple purposes, preserving the series’ trademark mix of tension and humor while providing a familiar lens through which to view Hell’s Kitchen’s underworld.

As the only character to cross paths with every major player in the Marvel/Netflix universe, Turk would be the perfect person to bridge the gap between streaming eras while maintaining the interconnected nature fans appreciated in the original shows. His return would also provide an opportunity to explore how Hell’s Kitchen’s criminal ecosystem has evolved in the years since the Netflix series concluded, offering context for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres Tuesday, March 4th on Disney+.

Children have never been safe in the world of Stephen King‘s IT, and fans can expect that to remain the case in Max’s upcoming prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry. Casting director Rich Delia, who previously worked on Andy Muschietti’s IT and IT Chapter Two feature adaptations, revealed in an interview with The Direct that audiences should expect to see some of the kids die in the new show. Delia spoke about his previous experience casting the beloved Losers Club and how it was a challenge finding a new young cast for the series. “I think the original cast of Losers are such beautiful young actors who have all gone on to do amazing things,” he said. “And I love casting them so much.”

Delia mentioned that finding a new set of actors for the project “felt like a little overwhelming… but the material was so strong, the characters are so rich and so deep. And Andy and Barbara [Muschietti] care so much about this world that you just — when you’re working with people like that who care and are giving it 100%, it makes you want to give 100%. So, it was just trying to uncover every stone as possible, to find these kids and find the most amazing, memorable kids that the audience will love, you know, falling in love with, and then some of them, of course, watching them die.”

Delia’s confirmation that key characters from this new set of Losers will perish falls in line not only with Pennywise’s track record of killing and feeding off of children, but with star Bill Skarsgård‘s recent reassurance that the shape-shifting clown and the horror that is Derry will still be “pretty hardcore” in IT: Welcome to Derry. Fans who may have been concerned about the violence being toned down from the movies can rest assured the series will not be pulling any punches. However, viewers will have to prepare themselves for which characters will fall victim to Pennywise.

Additionally, the casting director recalled Skarsgård’s first audition for Pennywise for 2017’s IT, calling it “one of the most memorable auditions” he’s ever had: “I was completely terrified. He was not in a clown costume. It was just Bill who, by the way, is the nicest, loveliest man in the world. But it was just Bill who came in, and he started launching into Pennywise, and I had chills, and the hair up on my arm, and I looked at my associate when he left, and I was like, freaking out. I was actually scared in the room. So that’s a good sign for someone coming into play Pennywise.”

A release date for IT: Welcome to Derry has not been announced by Max yet, beyond the streamer confirming that the series will premiere sometime in 2025. The series stars Skarsgård (who is also executive producing), Madeleine Stowe, Stephen Rider, Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.

IT and IT Chapter Two are available to stream on Max.

Created by Joss Whedon Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired in 1997 and, after an impressive 144 episodes, finally concluded in 2003. The series became a cultural phenomenon and its still inspiring new TV shows today. Buffy also introduced some iconic characters from the pretty-yet-strong Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) to the dangerous-yet-romantic vampire Spike (James Marsters). Plus viewers witnessed the coming-out of the groundbreaking character Willow (Alyson Hannigan), one of the first of its kind on television and happening in the third season of the series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was able to mix supernatural, horror, drama and even musicals into its episodes. With the mix of character-driven plot, comical dialogue and bold social commentary, it still remains as a fan favorite by many. It redefined the supernatural and horror genres on TV. While it’s tough to narrow them down, here are some of the best episodes that showcase the brilliance of this groundbreaking series.

10) “Once More, With Feeling” – Season 6, Episode 7

In this iconic episode, we watch as Sweet (Hinton Battle), a mysterious demon, forces the residents of Sunnydale to communicate through dance and song. It may sound like a harmless curse, just singing and dancing, but we soon find out that these songs bring out the characters innermost thoughts and feelings. As things get complicated between the Scooby Gang members they start confronting each other, with Tara suspecting Willow of altering her memory with magic, plus Xander and Anya begin having doubts about their upcoming marriage. But the most shocking reveal comes from Buffy, when she’s forced to reveal her struggles of being brought back to life by her friends.

This episode successfully explores the characters secret emotions while keeping the humor and drama balanced through music. Unlike modern musical episodes, “Once More, With Feeling” doesn’t use music as a form of comedy. Instead it’s used to convey serious emotions, while keeping the plot moving. Buffy really gave us a musical episode long before they became a trend, once again proving how iconic and ahead of its time the series was.

9) “Graduation Day,” – Season 3 Episodes 21 & 22

This two-part season finale episode is packed with action, humor, and an epic final battle between Buffy and the Mayor (Harry Groener), who transforms into a giant snake, confirming his place as one of the deadliest Buffy villains. The battle is thrilling and it takes two episodes to defeat the dangerous Mayor, and in the process Sunnydale High School gets ruined, bringing the metaphor of hte Scooby Gang’s teenage years to an end. The episode gets emotional for them as they reflect on their growth and the relationships they’ve made over the years.

This finale also solidifies the character’s emotional growth while setting the stage for the challenges to come, but it’s the quieter moments that make it memorable as we watch the Scoobies bittersweet farewell to their high school years and the realization that life as they knew it will never be the same.

8) “Passion” – Season 2, Episode 17

This episode shows us Angel (David Boreanaz) at his worst. We see how his cruel manipulation and chilling actions lead to the tragic death of Jenny (Robia LaMorte), a loss that deeply affects the Scooby Gang. The betrayal cuts deeper because it’s not just a physical loss, but a betrayal of trust by someone Buffy once loved.

We watch as Angel not only targets Jenny but also as he targets the emotional core of the group’s friendship. Buffy and her friends are forced to face the reality that not even their bond is immune to the evils of the world. The dark tones and shocking twists mark the episode as one of the most haunting.

7) “Restless” – Season 4, Episode 22

Another unforgettable season finale, in this episode, Buffy and her friends face surreal visions that reveal their most secret fears and desires. These dreams are triggered by an entity called ‘The First Slayer,’ which has the power to invade the character’s subconscious. Each character’s dream offers a glimpse into their inner turmoil. Once again, we are given the chance to delve into character’s most personal thoughts, and we see that despite constantly proving their strength and intelligence through battles with evil, most of the Scooby Gang is insecure with themselves.

The cryptic messages and emotional depth provide the audience with insight into the characters psyches. We see not only their growth but also get a hint of the struggles yet to come for them.

6) “Doppelgangland” – Season 3, Episode 16

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the first series to introduce alternate dimensions in TV, and it makes full use of this concept throughout the series. In this episode, we are introduced to Willow’s vampire double from another dimension. The appearance of Vampire Willow creates chaos amongst her friends and offers a glimpse into what Willow’s life would have been had she taken a different path in life (plus it showcases the thin line between good and evil).

The episode not only deepens the audiences understanding of Willow’s character but it also raises questions about fate and the choices we make. We also get an amazing performance from Alyson Hannigan, who skillfully portrays two contrasting characters in one episode. Her ability to shift between the innocent Willow and the dark Vampire Willow is absolutely amazing.

5) “Fool For Love” – Season 5, Episode 7

This is the perfect episode for fans of Spike, as we learn about the anti-hero’s backstory. Through flashbacks, we discover how Spike became a vampire and learn about his painful and lonely life as a human, which shaped his dark transformation. We also see the reasons behind his obsessions, particularly with Buffy.

The episode highlights the complexity of his relationship with her. His intense and sometimes violent feelings for her contrast with his vulnerability, making him stand out from his ‘villain’ character. We learn that his love for Buffy is driven by a need for validation and a desire to be seen and loved, stemming from his troubled past. The entire thing adds a new layer of depth to Spike, showing that his actions aren’t just fueled by evil but by a longing for connection.

4) “Hush” – Season 4, Episode 10

“Hush” stands out as one of the most creative episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as the majority of the story unfolds without dialogue. We watch as demons known as The Gentlemen rob everyone in Sunnydale of their voices, leaving them mute and defenseless against evil.

The choice to have the characters largely silent through out the episode is bold, and the series executes it flawlessly. The horror is heightened by the silence, relying on natural sounds and a haunting score to build tension. Plus, the lack of dialogue forces the characters to confront emotions they often avoid, adding depth to the narrative. We witness Buffy and her friends in a state of vulnerability, with their typical quick wit and banter stripped away from them. In this terrifying silence, they must rely on their instincts and actions to communicate and survive. “Hush” is a masterclass in how silence can amplify both horror and emotional resonance, marking it as one of the most memorable and inventive episodes in the entire series.

3) “Who Are You?” – Season 4, Episode 16

In this episode, Buffy and Faith (Eliza Dushku) unexpectedly swap bodies. To no one’s surprise, Faith fully takes advantage of the swap, creating chaos with her reckless behavior; but Buffy on the other hand faces the challenge of controlling Faith’s rebelliousness. The body swap highlights their differences while forcing them to confront each other’s choices. As Buffy struggles with Faith’s lack of restraint, Faith gets to experiences firsthand the weight of Buffy’s responsibilities as a hero, leading to both characters gaining a deeper understanding of each other.

The episode explores their contrasting approaches to being the Slayer and how each of them wrestles with the consequences of it. As it unfolds, both Buffy and Faith are forced to confront aspects of themselves they usually try to avoid. This moment of empathy becomes a turning point, allowing both characters to realize they are more similar than they thought.

2) “The Gift” – Season 5, Episode 22

Buffy’s ultimate sacrifice in the 100th episode makes it one of the most emotional moments in the series. In “The Gift,” we see her sacrifice herself to save her sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) and the world from Glory (Clare Kramer), showing not only the growth of Buffy as a Slayer, but as a sister too. Buffy comes to understand that her role of a Slayer includes not only fighting evil physically but also making sacrifices even if it means her own end, and in her last moments she makes peace with it.

The episode beautifully highlights how deep Buffy’s journey has become over five seasons, as she realizes the weight of her responsibilities. Her willingness to face death for others shows her growth from a reluctant hero to a selfless one. The episode also focuses on the relationships that have shaped Buffy, especially her bond with Dawn. Buffy’s sacrifice makes it a heartbreaking moment not only for Buffy but for the Scooby Gang too, who are forced to confront what their lives would be without her. In her final moments, she delivers the unforgettable line: “The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.”

1) “The Body” – Season 5, Episode 16

One of the most emotionally raw and heartbreaking in the series, “The Body” confronts a reality shared by both the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the audience’s world: the inevitability of death. While we’ve seen Buffy fight countless vampires, demons, and even world-ending threats, this time however we see her, powerless against a brain aneurysm that unexpectedly claims her mother, Joyce (Kristine Sutherland).

With no musical score and an intense focus on the characters grief, the episode delivers a profoundly emotional experience. It steps away from the supernatural to focus on the fragility of life and death, showing how each character deals with the unexpected loss. It also forces us to confront a reality we all face: the fragility of life and the inevitability of loss.

One star of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries is headed back to the world of the undead — but this time, he won’t be in front of the camera. According to Deadline Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, is set to produce a new vampire comedy currently in development at FOX. Per the report, the series will be written by Unstable co-creator Victor Fresco and directed by The Rookie’s Liz Friedlander. Fresco, Friedlander, and Wesley are set to executive produce along with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and Tracy Katsky of KatCo. The series does not yet have a title.

The series will follow a 25-year-old vampire struggling with running the family business for his murderous and suffocating vampire parents all while trying to chase his own dream to become an actor. The idea comes from Friedlander, Wesley, and Kaplan before being shared with Fresco.

For Wesley, this marks a return to vampire stories. The actor portrayed Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017. He also appeared in the same role for an episode of The Originals. Wesley has also directed various episodes of The Vampire Diaries as well as spinoff series, Legacies. Currently, Wesley appears as James T. Kirk in Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The project may come as a little bit of a surprise for fans of The Vampire Diaries. Back in 2023, Wesley explained in an interview with InStyle that he not only didn’t miss his The Vampire Diaries role, but he had no plans to play another vampire again — though this new series certainly offers a way to tell a vampire story without Wesley having to portray one. There is currently no indication that Wesley will appear on screen in the series or have any involvement other than his executive producer role.

“I don’t really miss anything about playing him, and I don’t mean that in a [negative way],” Wesley said of playing Stefan. “Eight years is a long time, and I’m so glad to put that to rest. Eight seasons. Because the show ran for such a long time, in order for it not to become monotonous every season, he sort of had a different arc. At one point he was pure evil, and he started out as the good guy and then he ended as the good guy. But I liked the challenge of trying to keep the character fresh.”

New episodes of Family Guy are finally coming soon as the animated series has finally set a premiere date for Season 23. Family Guy missed out on much of 2024 as FOX had shuffled the series around for the first time in years. Not only was the series taken off of Sunday nights, but it didn’t return in Fall 2024 with the other Animation Domination long running franchises The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers. This meant that Family Guy wouldn’t be returning for its next season until some time in the Winter with the start of the midseason Animation Domination schedule on Sunday evenings.

But now the wait will be over soon as Family Guy is now confirmed to be returning for new episodes on Sunday, February 16th on FOX (with the episodes then being available to stream with Hulu the next day). While its time slot has yet to be confirmed (along with the rest of the midseason shake ups planned for FOX’s Animation Domination block on Sunday evenings), thankfully now it means fans won’t have to wait much longer to see Season 23 of the series and Peter will be up to his old shenanigans again before too long. Check out the announcement for Family Guy’s return below.

Family Guy Returns for Season 23 In February

With FOX confirming that Family Guy is returning for new episodes on February 16th, this is likely when fans will get to see the midseason kick off in full. FOX previously teased that their midseason slate for the Animation Domination block this Winter would be led by Family Guy, and also include the returns of shows like Grimsburg, The Great North and Krapopolis. Each of these animated series will be returning for new episodes as well, and will likely go back on break when The Simpsons, Universal Basic Guys, and Bob’s Burgers make their returns (though Universal Basic Guys has yet to announce a follow up season as of this publication).

Family Guy will be kicking off Season 23 of the animated series which was previously teased during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 last year. The season shared a first look at the coming episodes that not only teased a Top Gun Maverick parody would be coming in the new season, but that there are also some shake ups with new characters such as a younger version of Peter’s mortal enemy, the Giant Chicken (who is likely their son), who has a story with Meg.

Where to Watch Family Guy Right Now

If you’re itching for more Family Guy right now, there are plenty of ways to check out its older episodes. Not only is every previous season of the animated series now streaming exclusively with Hulu (along with two exclusive holiday specials that released last year), but it’s also being offered on many different channels. Family Guy reruns are now airing consistently on channels like FXX and Comedy Central, and even kicked off a renewed deal to return to Adult Swim (the block that helped Family Guy to become as successful as it is to this day).

With Family Guy officially returning for new episodes in February, it also means there’s going to be more of the series on the air than ever before. As the animated sitcom is now in the midst of celebrating its 25th anniversary, it’s going to be a big year to be a fan of Family Guy as it’s clear there’s no signs of the show slowing down anytime soon.

Danielle Fishel may be best known for portraying Topanga Lawrence on Disney Channel’s Boy Meets World; the actress has since pivoted to directing. Among her latest work behind the camera include recent of episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress-turned-director shared an iconic Pixar moment which inspired an episode of the series now fronted by Justin Russo (David Henrie). Fishel revealed to the trade how the switchboard scene in the episode titled ‘Potions Eleven,’ was inspired by Inside Out’s own ‘Headquarters,’ which is home to Riley’s emotions. But in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the life inside Justin’s mind takes on a new world of emotions if only for a few minutes. Spoilers follow for episode 11!

During a poignant yet calamitous moment, the scene takes us into the mind of Justin where multiple kids are running rampant. Fishel explained how the Inside Out reference was intentional, revealing: “It was part of the inspiration for the set deck, which, I saw the plans before I was actually ever on set; they sent me the drawing of what the set was going to look like, and it looked so futuristic and so cool, I couldn’t really even fathom what this was going to look like. So when I showed up on set and saw it, it was so beautiful.

She added, “It was also a tricky set, because it had to be kind of deep, and there’s a lot of action that takes place in it. So we needed to be able to have places for people to move; there’s the sliding wall, and so it was a little bit difficult to shoot in, but it was a really fun set.”

WIZARDS BEYOND WAVERLY PLACE – “Pilot” (Disney/Eric McCandless) ALKAIO THIELE, JANICE LEANN BROWN, SELENA GOMEZ, MAX MATENKO, MIMI GIANOPULOS, DAVID HENRIE

Though challenging to execute, the sitcom veteran knew exactly what she had in mind for the scene, and even acted it out like a play for the showrunners. “During rehearsals, like when the kids were in his mind, and then something was happening in the schoolroom set for our run-throughs — which is when we put on the show like a play for the writers and the producers — we would put the kids off to the side in whatever set David Henrie was in. So people didn’t have to run to the other set. They could just imagine they were in that set, and it helped with the timing, and it helped with the comedy.”

The Raven’s Home director also commented on how directing became her calling after working both on and off-screen for Girl Meets World, after considering a career in counselling. Fishel revealed that while pursuing a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, the opportunity for the Boy Meets World follow-up series arrived, and had largely left acting behind.

“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’ Then, when I started directing, I realized, ‘Oh, this is very much what I’m supposed to be doing, being a director, and especially working with young people, really feels like a way of giving back to my young self.'”

Firmly positioned behind the camera, having directed almost 50 episodes of television, Fishel did hint that a return to acting remains a possibility given the right role. She teased a project she currently has in development where she “may” end up acting in, though she noted, “Directing is really where my love and my focus and my passion is.”

The Wizards of Waverly Place spinoff series centers on an adult Justin Russo — who after accepting mortality — lives an average life in Staten Island with his wife and two sons until his sister Alex (Selena Gomez) requests assistance with Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a child wizard-in-training.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is streaming on Disney+.

There was a key person missing from last week’s episode of WWE NXT, but tonight they were back in action, addressing their previous absence right up front. That would be WWE commentator Corey Graves, who made a lot of people question whether he was part of a work or shoot with his comments on social media last week. That was because Graves was moved from SmackDown to NXT, but tonight he made it clear he was where he wanted to be.

Vic Joseph introduced Booker T and Graves, and joked that it was indeed Graves and not some sort of A.I. Graves then said, “I am right where I want to be. Where passion is everything and only the hungry survive and pro wrestling never stopped being cool.”

The “right where I want to be” and “only the hungry survive” lines are definitely references to what happened last week, and it would seem any issues between Graves and WWE have been smoothed over in the time since his initial comments. Graves also deleted those previous tweets, so it’s not likely part of any sort of storyline.

Corey Graves stated at the start of #WWENXT "I am right where I want to be. Where passion is everything and only the hungry survive and pro wrestling never stopped being cool."

PWUnlimited (@pwunlimited.bsky.social) 2025-01-22T01:04:34.681Z

That was part of why people were intrigued, as it could have been a storyline push to have Graves return to the ring. That doesn’t seem to be the case now though, as anything related to that has been deleted and it didn’t continue to play a role throughout tonight’s NXT either.

The initial tweet from Graves went as follows. “Imagine chasing your dream. Then being TOLD (not deciding) that you’re no longer physically able to pursue your dream. Then you dedicate your life to something “dream adjacent” and being pretty f awesome at it. And then, when it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor, being told you’re not famous enough for your own job. Just in case you’ve wondered where I’ve been,” Graves wrote.

Graves later added to that initial tweet with another that teased he would address it later on TV. Graves wrote, “I’ve got a lot to say. Don’t miss #WWENXT tonight on @TheCW TONIGHT.” Since then both tweets have been deleted, and at least for a little while, Graves is setting up shop on NXT.

What did you think of what Graves had to say? You can talk all things wrestling with me on Bluesky @knightofoa!

Daredevil: Born Again Is the MCU’s Make-or-Break Project https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/why-daredevil-born-again-is-most-important-mcu-project-tv-movies/ Tue, 21 Jan 2025 23:39:08 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=1241908

Daredevil: Born Again‘s first trailer has rekindled a fire under the Marvel fandom, as it both represents the return of the fan-favored Marvel-Netflix franchise, as well as an exciting “event” project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s run of Disney+ TV shows. However, while there is considerable hype for Daredevil: Born Again, the project also represents a very pivotal moment in the MCU brand – a make-or-break moment, if we’re all being honest.

A Tale of Two Eras

Before we can dig into the point of the second section of this essay (see below), we have to break down the contextual information in this first section. Daredevil: Born Again is distinct from every other MCU project before it (and likely after it) in that it was made – and then remade – to fit two very different eras of the franchise.

Initially, Daredevil: Born Again was put into production as part of Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s ‘Flood the Zone’ strategy, which saw exponential increases in big franchise universe content (Marvel, Star Wars) being pushed onto Disney+. Originally, Born Again was set to be a wholly original take on the Daredevil character than the Netflix show was – a courtroom procedural with superhero elements, and the only connective thread to the Netflix show being the re-casting of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Disney-Marvel shot a handful of episodes for that version of the show, before the overall failures of Chapek’s run as CEO forced a course-corrective move by Disney.

Bob Chapek was removed from his CEO position in November of 2022, with former Disney CEO Bob Iger re-taking the reigns; a little less than a year later, the six episodes of Daredevil: Born Again that had already been shot were deemed to be creatively off the mark, the creative team was replaced, and the show concept was retooled to be a direct continuation of the Netflix series. Born Again will now bring back many additional characters from the Netflix show, including Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), Frank Castle/Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson).

Daredevil: Born Again Will Prove If Marvel Studios Righted the Ship

Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again

As stated, the contextual information about Daredevil: Born Again‘s start-stop-restart production is necessary for explaining why the series is now a make-or-break release for the MCU brand.

Between 2023 and 2024 there has been no shortage of headlines about the MCU’s diminished brand value, as well as the behind-the-scenes troubles that have been occurring since Chapek took over. In 2024, Marvel Studios PR made a charge to take back the narrative, letting fans know that course corrections are being made. Playing the hits and focusing on quality content over quantity has been the new set of marching orders under Iger – turning that ship around has been a slow process, but it’s been clear that Daredevil: Born Again is the symbolic marker from which to measure whether or not Marvel Studios can turn this ship around.

If Daredevil: Born Again cannot take the DNA of the Netflix series – one of the most groundbreaking TV shows of the 2010s – and spin it into both an acclaimed and fan-favorite MCU experience, then it’s the surest early sign we’ll have that Iger’s return and the refocused content strategies aren’t saving graces it was hoped they’d be. If Born Again can’t tap into that same thrilling vein as the Netflix series, it’s also a damning sign that Marvel Studios isn’t the single undisputed king of adapting these characters for the screen.

Some fans may point out that Captain America: Brave New World will arrive in theaters first, and that it is potentially the greater portent of the MCU’s decline if it doesn’t perform at the box office. However, Brave New World started production in March of 2023, and arguably is still coasting on the final fumes of the Chapek era; Daredevil: Born Again is a project that was specifically overhauled to dispel any lasting influence of that era – it will be the first “pure” piece of content to come out of Iger and Kevin Feige’s Dream-Team return era. If it’s a hit, MCU fans will be able to chant “We are so back!” with deserved confidence. But if it’s not a hit, then MCU fans will have equally deserved reason to be worried that the franchise’s time is fading.

Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ on Tuesday, March 4th.

Netflix is raised its prices for U.S. subscribers on Tuesday, January 21st, effective immediately. According to a report by Variety, the streamer broke the news in its quarterly letter to investors alongside announcements of its earnings in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2024, which included its biggest-even increase in subscribers for a single quarter. This is the first time Netflix has raised the price of its ad-supported tier since its introduction, and the company’s first price hike overall since October of 2023. Netflix said that the money from increased subscription prices will go to improving its services and content offerings.

Under the new pricing structure, Netflix’s “Standard with ads” plan will go from $6.99 per month to $7.99 per month. “The Standard” plan will also rise from $15.49 to $17.99 per month, and the “Premium” plan will go up from $22.99 per month to $24.99 per month. Even the “Extra Member” add-on, which allows “Standard” and “Premium” users to access the service outside of their own households, will rise in price from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.

“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix,” read Netflix’s letter. “To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the U.S., Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).”

While the letter suggested that these price hikes would start immediately, the previous prices are still in place at the time of this writing. The letter also noted that Netflix acquired 18.9 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2024 — the biggest gain ever in a single quarter. The company reported that 55 percent of new subscribers joined on the ad-supported tier, and outlined plans to increase advertising revenue in 2025.

The streamer also highlighted some of the big releases it has coming this year, which will hopefully help the company hang onto subscribers. That includes new seasons of both Squid Game and Wednesday as well as the series finales of You and Stranger Things.

Netflix last raised its prices in October of 2023. While it has not increased the subscription cost since then, it has done away with its cheapest ad-free tier and introduced “Standard with ads,” effectively making it the only option for customers at that price point. The streamer continues to dominate the streaming market, even if announcements like this one cause a stir on social media.

The already iconic series that changed television has seen an enormous boost in popularity as of late, and it’s the perfect time for new fans to jump on the bandwagon. Twin Peaks, co-created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, has been considered one of the best TV shows of all time for years and years, and has steadily gained new fans since it first aired back in 1990. Due to the the recent passing of Lynch, a lot of folks who have been putting it off are finally taking the dive and watching the entire Twin Peaks saga unfold.

For those new to Twin Peaks, it may be a tiny bit confusing when you first jump into it. Not the show itself, mind you, but the media franchise that the show created. There are two seasons of a series, a standalone movie, a full film of deleted scenes, and a limited series with the same name to sort through. It can be overwhelming, but Twin Peaks isn’t nearly as intimidating to watch through as it may seem on the surface.

If you’re curious about jumping into Twin Peaks, the way to experience it all is in the order it was released. That means starting with the original Twin Peaks series, which aired in 1990 and 1991, with a total of 29 episodes to watch through. That doesn’t include the “International Pilot” episode, which is essentially a longer edition of the Twin Peaks pilot that solves one of its biggest mysteries at the end of the episode. You don’t want this episode to spoil you on the rest of the show, but fortunately it’s not included most places you’ll watch Twin Peaks. You only need to worry about this if you are watching one of the older DVD sets or pirating the series online.

After the original Twin Peaks, move on to Lynch’s 1992 feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. This movie is a prequel to the series and is set in the days leading up to Laura Palmer’s death, aka the catalyst for the events of the show. While it takes place before the series, it’s best to watch after finishing Season 2. If you’re really curious, there’s also Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces, which is essentially a second prequel movie that’s made entirely out of Fire Walk With Me deleted scenes. It’s certainly not a must if you’re watching through Twin Peaks, but it’s still worth checking out.

Lastly you’ll move on to the Twin Peaks limited series that aired on Showtime in 2017. The 18-episode series is basically a third season of the series that takes place decades later, with many of the original cast members returning to join Lynch and Frost in continuing the story. This is usually referred to as Twin Peaks: The Return.

If you’re looking to stream all of Twin Peaks, you may need a couple of different services to get it done. Both seasons of Twin Peaks and the entirety of Twin Peaks: The Return can be found on Paramount+. The original series is also available for free on Pluto TV. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is available on both Max and The Criterion Channel, while Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces is just on The Criterion Channel.

If you’d rather not fuss with all the services, or you just know that physical media is the way to go, you need to check out Twin Peaks: From Z to A. This is a box set that contains everything we just talked about above, in addition to a bunch of special features and bonuses. All three seasons of the show are available in the set, in addition to both movies. A couple episodes of the series also have 4K upgrades in the collection.

You can buy a copy of Twin Peaks: From Z to A here.

The verdict’s in: Netflix has renewed The Lincoln Lawyer for season 4. Announced during the Next on Netflix event, the streamer confirmed that Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) will ride again after that shocking season 3 ending in October. “The Gods of Guilt” season finale ended with Mickey getting to the bottom of the death of his friend and former client Gloria Dayton/Glory Days (Fiona Rene), and DA investigator Neil Bishop (Holt McCallany) shooting himself on the stand after confessing to covering up the crimes of DEA Agent James De Marco (Michael Irby).

But in another season-ending twist, Mickey was pulled over for a missing license plate and arrested when a police officer found probable cause to pop open his trunk: dripping blood. Inside the trunk was the body of Mickey’s former client, Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), the con man who had become the client of Mickey’s ex-wife and newly-minted lawyer Lorna Crane (Becki Newton).

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Release Date

Netflix hasn’t announced when The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will release, but production on the new season will begin in February. The series typically shoots for five months, so season 4 is likely to air before the end of 2025.

Who’s in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Cast?

Returning alongside Garcia-Rulfo are Newton as Lorna, Jazz Raycole as Izzy, and Angus Sampson as Cisco. Netflix also confirmed that Neve Campbell, who plays Mickey’s first ex-wife Maggie McPherson, is set to return for season 4.

How Many Episodes Is The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4?

Like the first three seasons, The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will consist of 10 episodes.

What Is The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 About?

The new season is based on author Michael Connelly’s 2020 Lincoln Lawyer novel The Law of Innocence, in which Mickey is charged with murder but unable to pay the $5 million bail imposed on him by a vindictive judge.

“Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles. All the while he needs to look over his shoulder—as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail,” according to the book’s synopsis. “But the bigger plot is the one against him. Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one. As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him. Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough. In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why. That is the law of innocence.”

“Season 4 is based on The Law of Innocence, and it’s all about Mickey being accused for Sam Scales’ murder. So that’s the next book we’re adapting,” executive producer and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez previously told Variety.

Co-showrunner Ted Humphrey teased, “The only way to up the stakes on this season was to make Mickey the client, which clearly was the idea Michael had in the books as well.”

The first three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer are streaming now on Netflix.

Uma Thurman is joining Michael C. Hall in Dexter: Resurrection, the newest series to join Showtime’s growing Dexter Universe. Dexter: Resurrection will take place after the events of Dexter: New Blood, with Thurman joining as a series regular and playing Charley, the Head of Security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater. The prequel series Dexter: Original Sin is currently airing on Paramount+ with Showtime and quickly became Showtime’s most-streamed premiere with more than 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers.

The cast of Dexter: Resurrection joining Michael C. Hall and Uma Thurman includes series regulars David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott, who are reprising their roles as Detective Angel Batista, Dexter’s father Harry Morgan, and Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan, respectively.

A report from November linked Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and X-Files star Gillian Anderson for roles in Dexter: Resurrection. While the roles they were in talks for are unknown, they could have been the billionaire Leon Prater and his Head of Security, Charley. Dexter: Resurrection will reportedly pick up where New Blood left off with Dexter bleeding out in the woods. When we last saw the character, he was on the ground, presumed dead, at the feet of Officer Angela Bishop and backup wasn’t far behind her. It’s hard to imagine Dexter isn’t in custody at least at the start of Resurrection, but it remains to be seen what could come from this besides a fairly open/shut court case against the serial killer.

Uma Thurman’s recent roles include Red, White and Royal Blue for Prime Video, Oh, Canada, and The Kill Room. Along with starring in the Kill Bill franchise and Pulp Fiction, Thurman is a Golden Globe winner in the Best Actress in a Television Film category for HBO’s Hysterical Blindness as well as being Emmy nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in NBC’s Smash.

Dexter: Original Sin is currently streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Original Harry Potter Director Defends HBO’s Reboot (And He Makes a Good Point) https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/harry-potter-tv-show-reboot-chris-columbus-response/ Tue, 21 Jan 2025 18:48:00 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=1241796 Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Ron and Harry using wands in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Chris Columbus, who directed the first two installments of the Harry Potter film franchise, has voiced his support for HBO’s upcoming TV reboot. In an interview with People, the filmmaker called the project “a spectacular idea” since it won’t be weighed down by the same time restrictions movies are. Comparing the TV show to his Wizarding World endeavors, Columbus said, “Our film was two hours and 40 minutes, and the second one was almost as long.” While Columbus and his team wanted to cover as much of J.K. Rowling’s novels as they could, they still had to work within the confines of a film’s running time.

He believes that TV will be a great space to tell the classic Harry Potter story. “The fact that they have the leisure of [multiple] episodes for each book, I think that’s fantastic,” Columbus said. “You can get all the stuff in the series that we didn’t have an opportunity to do … all these great scenes that we just couldn’t put in the films.”

The Harry Potter TV show, slated to premiere on HBO in 2026, has been described as a “faithful adaptation” of the book series. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president of global streaming mentioned the reboot will be a “10-year journey” for the company, highlighting its significance to the studio’s future plans. Cameras will start rolling on the Harry Potter show at some point this summer, with production taking place in the United Kingdom.

As the series progresses towards its filming start date, HBO is attempting to put together the show’s cast. While nothing is official, reports have indicated Colin Farrell is being eyed for Dumbledore, and Brett Goldstein is in the running for Hagrid. Paapa Essiedu has reportedly been offered the role of Professor Snape. Last year, HBO held an open casting call to find actors to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

The Harry Potter films were wildly successful, ranking among the highest-grossing titles of their era and earning positive reviews. Given how prominent the movies still are today, a reboot of any kind sounds like a fruitless proposition on paper. However, Columbus is correct in his assessment. While there are business reasons for moving forward with a Harry Potter reboot (Warner Bros. Discovery doesn’t want a lucrative IP to sit on ice for too long), utilizing a different medium will help differentiate it from what came before from an artistic perspective. The cloud of the Harry Potter movies might always hang over the show, but the series will at least be able to take advantage of its format by going into greater detail than its big-screen counterparts. Already, it’s been confirmed that Peeves the poltergeist — absent from the films — will appear on the show.

There’s no shortage of great moments from the Harry Potter books that would be ideal to explore on the TV show, and it should be exciting to finally see them realized on-screen. The franchise’s extensive world-building is a main reason why it resonated so much with audiences, so presenting a more comprehensive depiction of the Wizarding World sounds like an easy recipe for success. Of course, simply having these “great scenes” Columbus references in the script won’t be enough to make the show land with fans. The onus will be on the showrunners to nail their casting decisions; watching the right actors bring sequences cut from the movies will really help elevate the TV show.

Animated series like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Regular Show have helped push a new generation of fans to Western animation. While many of these shows appeared on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, Disney and its television channels, Disney XD and the Disney Channel, has had its fair share of beloved animated projects that are still beloved to this day. Phineas & Ferb, Gravity Falls, Kim Possible, The Owl House, and Amphibia are all Disney exclusives, though one fan-favorite series might stand above the rest. In a surprising new reveal, fans of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil have discovered the original pilot episode of the series and it looks far different from what we’ve come to know.

For those who haven’t had the chance to check out Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, the animated series first debuted in 2015. Finding success on Disney XD and the Disney Channel, the show gained four seasons and seventy seven episodes, exceeding many of its Disney cohorts. The premise is one that is a giant love letter to all things anime as the series follows main character Star Butterfly, a magical princess from an alternate dimension. Sent to the planet Earth thanks to an accident, Star became a premiere Disney character despite never hitting the big screen.

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil: Round 1

Originally titled “Star And The Forces of Evil“, the original pilot looks far different from what we would come to see on The Disney Channel. Ironically, series creator Daron Nefcy had originally pitched the series to Cartoon Network, finding little luck on the channel. Luckily, Disney was receptive to adding the character Star Butterfly to its roster and the four-season long series became a fan-favorite. In the initial pilot, Star is also rather different than the protagonist animation fans would come to know.

A Star Revival?

Unlike Gravity Falls, there have been no rumors of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil making a comeback following the series finale in 2019. When the fourth and final season was announced, creator Daron Nefcy stated that she and the team had put their all into the curtain call, “We put our heart and soul into this final season, and can’t wait to celebrate the exciting conclusion of the series with our fans who have remained so loyal throughout this journey.”

If you haven’t seen the series for yourself, it’s currently available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu. Here’s how Disney describes the beloved franchise that still holds a special place in many fans’ hearts, “After a few bold skirmishes with other-worldly monsters, fun-loving magical teen princess Star Butterfly is sent by her Royal Parents to live with the Diaz family on Earth, bringing along her own unique interdimensional style to her new planet.”

Natalie Portman as Padme in Revenge of the Sith

After Ahsoka Season 1 featured Hayden Christensen reprising his role of Anakin Skywalker, the Star Wars show’s second season is rumored to mark the comeback of another prominent prequel trilogy character. According to Kristian Harloff, Natalie Portman could be returning the franchise to play Padmé again. “I got word that [Ahsoka showrunner Dave] Filoni is really trying hard to get this one character back,” Harloff said on an episode of his podcast. “It looks like it’s close … I don’t think it’s a signed deal yet, but it’s close, and it looks like, in Ahsoka, returning could be one Natalie Portman.”

Harloff theorized Portman’s potential casting could set the stage for what would most likely be a “World Between Worlds type thing.” He added that would “[make] sense with the Ewan McGregor of it all and young Ahsoka, they’d probably do a World Between Worlds thing, and it makes sense that [Filoni] would want her,” alluding to previous Ahsoka rumors purporting that McGregor and Ariana Greenblatt would be reprising Obi-Wan Kenobi and young Ahsoka, respectively, for Season 2. However, Star Wars News Net has heard that Portman “is not in negotiations to return.”

Portman portrayed Padmé Amidala in all three installments of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but she hasn’t played the character since 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Despite being absent from the galaxy far, far away for two decades now, the actress would be open to a return if an opportunity presented itself. Back in 2023, she mentioned that “no one has asked her” about coming back. She did, however, humorously have to remind her Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi that she played Padmé when he asked her if she wanted to be in the Star Wars movie he’s developing.

Ahsoka Season 2 does not have an official release date as of this writing. Reportedly, the plan is for it to begin filming at some point in April. Recently, Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann joined the cast; he will portray Baylan Skoll, replacing the late Ray Stevenson.

Ahsoka has already delved into the World Between Worlds, a mystical plane in the Force that connects all of time and space. The Season 1 episode “Part Five: Shadow Warrior” sees Ahsoka undergo a series of trials in the realm, which, in part, involves her reexperiencing battles from the Clone Wars. Considering how well-received that episode was, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ahsoka Season 2 featured more of the World Between Worlds, allowing Filoni and his team to depict additional Clone War-era flashbacks to Ahsoka’s youth. On the animated series, Ahsoka is good friends with both Obi-Wan and Padmé, and it would be fun for fans to see her interact with them in live-action. Similar to Season 1’s use of the World Between Worlds, this could be an intriguing way to dive deep into Ahsoka’s psyche while also fleshing out her dynamic with some of her closest companions.

Of course, the trick would be making a Padmé return feel organic so it’s more than just a nostalgic callback for prequel trilogy fans. Star Wars has been guilty of using fan service as a crutch before, and it would be a shame if Portman’s long-awaited comeback rang hollow. What made “Part Five: Shadow Warrior” work so well wasn’t just the bits of live-action Clone Wars; it was an integral moment for Ahsoka within the context of the show’s arc, and having Anakin be the one to teach her a most important lesson was logical. If Filoni is “really trying hard” to get Portman onboard, the implication is he has something in mind that requires Padmé’s presence. Should this rumor come to pass (and fans should take it with a grain of salt for now), it will be interesting to see how she fits into Ahsoka Season 2.

Actor Christopher Benjamin passed away on Friday, January 10th at the age of 90. The news broke on Thursday, January 16th via Benjamin’s friend actress Lisa Bowerman. Benjamin played three different roles in three different eras of Doctor Who, alongside stars Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and David Tennant. He was also a prolific actor on TV and on stage for over half a century, and was clearly beloved by many colleagues who are posting tributes to him now on social media. He is survived by his wife, three children, three grandchildren and many admiring fans, judging by the commentary online.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Christopher Benjamin, at the age of 90, on the 10th of January,” read an announcement Benjamin’s family, posted by Bowerman. “One of the few remaining ‘old school’ actors, he had a huge and extensive career spanning seventy years, encompassing theatre, radio, TV and film. Beloved by all who knew him, one of his final stage appearances was as Falstaff in the Globe production of The Merry Wives of Windsor in 2010, where he led the company and created such a happy sense of Bonhomie for all that many who were there cite as the highlight of their career.”

Benjamin first appeared on Doctor Who in 1970, playing Sir Keith Gold in the serial “Inferno.” He returned to the production in 1977 as Henry Gordon Jago for the serial “The Talons of Weng-Chiang,” and finally in 2008 he played Colonel Hugh Curbishley in the episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp.” Benjamin also worked extensively in radio dramas, and he reprised the role of Jago for several of those. He even got his own audio spinoff series called Jago & Litefoot which aired from 2010 to 2021.

Benjamin was born in England in 1934, and began getting regular TV credits in 1965. Before that, he made a name for himself in theater and radio. He would continue to perform in stage plays for the rest of his career even while his TV roles were plentiful. He only took a few roles on the big screen, including The Legend of Tarzan in 2016.

That year, Benjamin retired and settled in London with his wife, actress and writer Anna Fox. According to his family, they were married for 65 years. His children wrote that the two met at Warminster school. Their note was met with mournful comments from fans and fellow actors. Many had fond memories of Benjamin — whether on screen or in person.

Hulk Hogan has been a popular topic of discussion after his unfortunate appearance on the Netflix premiere of WWE’s Monday Night Raw, and he came up again on tonight’s new episode. This time around though he wasn’t there in person, as it was CM Punk mentioning his name. It wasn’t a tribute though, as Punk went through all of the people he plans on going through at the Royal Rumble to get a shot at the Title, and he included Hogan in that mix before pretty much eviscerating him during his promo. Couple that with the lack of Hogan spotlight in the Saturday Night’s Main Event promo, and it seems that previous appearance certainly had an effect.

Punk delivered an interview with Jackie Redmond in the midst of the crowd talking about the competition he is facing in the Rumble. Punk mentioned names like Roman Reigns, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Sami Zayn first, but then he got to Hogan.

Punk said, “You put Hulk Hogan in the Royal Rumble and I’ll throw his dusty ass over the top rope and I’ll kill Hulkamania once and for all.” It was a great promo overall, but the Hogan bit hit like a sledgehammer, as the crowd started cheering in a major way after he said it. It’s also worth noting that Redmond’s reactions to it were priceless, and made the segment even better. You can watch the promo below.

Punk never holds back on anyone, and he did also target Reigns, Zayn, McIntyre, and Cena during the promo. That said, if WWE didn’t want more attention brought to Hogan on TV, they might have not wanted Punk to go in on him like that. It seems to be perfectly fine though, at least as of now, especially as it’s only a few days before Saturday Night’s Main Event.

It’s also interesting that the advertisement for Saturday Night’s Main Event during Raw was all about the big matches on the card, which now includes Rhea Ripley vs Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s World Championship. There will also be a showdown between Gunther and Jey Uso as well as Braun Strowman and Jacob Fatu and Sheamus and Bron Breakker, but in previous promos Hogan was still featured prominently. During this ad, he wasn’t mentioned at all.

Now, it could just be that WWE wanted to spotlight the matches, especially since a major one was just added during the show. It’s hard to ignore though that between Punk’s promo and Hogan’s lack of spotlight in any ads, there does seem to be a change in approach.

WrestleMania 41 will be making its home in Las Vegas later this year, and while we have locations for a few other key events (including the recently announced Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia), we don’t yet know where WrestleMania 42 will take place. That might have changed though, as according to a new report by PWInsider, the frontrunner for landing the biggest wrestling event of the year is New Orleans (H/T Wrestle Ops).

New Orleans being the frontrunner for WrestleMania 42 is currently making the rounds locally in Louisiana, thought that could obviously change. At one point it seemed locked in that Minneapolis would have WrestleMania 41, but at the last minute it was revealed that it would be Las Vegas instead.

New Orleans would be a great location though, and it will also be the home of the Superbowl later this year, so that would be back to back major events for the city if it ends up going that way.

WWE’s most recent announcement was the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, which will be the first time the event has been held there. It will take place in January 2026 in Riyadh, and in a statement HE Turki Alalshikh said, “Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the Royal Rumble for the first time outside North America reflects the General Entertainment Authority’s ongoing commitment to bringing the world’s largest and most important entertainment events to the Kingdom. Through this partnership with WWE, we aim to enhance the entertainment sector and deliver a transformative experience that attracts a wide audience.”

“We are excited to see this historic event as part of Riyadh Season’s activities and look forward to providing an exceptional experience for wrestling fans from around the world, whom we welcome to all events hosted in Saudi Arabia,” HE Turki Alalshikh said.

“WWE is a global enterprise and it only made sense to expand our relationship with the Kingdom by bringing one of our biggest annual events to Riyadh in January of 2026,” said Nick Khan, WWE President.

Monday Night Raw got things started with Main Event Jey Uso getting the crowd amped, but he wasn’t the only Superstar to hype up the crowd. A later segment revealed that a former WWE Champion was also in the house, and that former WWE Champion was none other than the Role Model herself Bayley. That’s when she revealed that not only was she now officially a part of Monday Night Raw moving forward, but she was also declaring her entry in the Royal Rumble match.

So far the Women’s Rumble match only includes Nia Jax officially, and that was built upon tonight, as Jax confronted Bayley during her segment. Bayley said she could take on anyone on Raw now that she’s a part of the red brand’s roster, including the Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, and that’s when Jax showed up.

Jax referred to what happened before Raw even started, which was revealed at the top of the show. Jax attacked Ripley as she was making her way into the arena, brutally slamming her into a fence multiple times before kicking her on the ground. It’s not known when Ripley will be back, but she was waving away medical personnel, so hopefully that means she won’t be sidelined very long from it.

Bayley vs Nia Jax happens later tonight!#WWERAW #RawOnNetflix

Kam Dreesen (@thekamdreesen.bsky.social) 2025-01-21T01:25:24.125Z

As for Bayley, this opens up some much-needed creative opportunities for her regarding her storylines. Bayley had been in a back-and-forth program with Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton on SmackDown, and she also ended up repairing things with Bianca Belair a bit thanks to her friendship with Naomi.

Without taking the Title from Stratton, there wasn’t much else for her to do there, so moving to Raw opens things up a bit. She can feud with Ripley for the Title of course, but she can also face Liv Morgan, Sonya Deville, Zoey Stark, Shayna Baszler, and Lyra Valkyria, who is now the first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

Bayley’s also been showing up everywhere lately, including NXT, which might be her most important showcase at the moment. That’s because she’s started a program with Roxanne Perez, who is likely headed to Raw or SmackDown sooner than later. This will be the perfect feud to shine a light on Perez ahead of her main roster ascension, and babyface Bayley is the perfect foil to make that happen.

Are you excited for Bayley’s move to Monday Night Raw? You can talk all things wrestling with me on Bluesky @knightofoa!

One of the most celebrated TV shows of all time is now more accessible than ever, a streaming move that couldn’t have come at a better time. The TV series in question is none other than Twin Peaks, the highly acclaimed and wildly cinematic crime drama from Mark Frost and David Lynch, which aired two seasons in 1990 and 1991. There’s never a bad time to watch Twin Peaks, but the demand and curiosity for the show incredibly high right now, due to the recent and tragic passing of Lynch.

While one of the most unique and groundbreaking storytellers in film history is sadly no longer with us, his stories continue to live on, as evidenced by the continued love for Twin Peaks more than 30 years later. Twin Peaks has bounced around from streaming service to streaming service over the years, but was recently added to Pluto TV’s on-demand lineup, making it easier for everyone to watch.

If you’re not familiar, Pluto TV is a free streaming service that specializes in live streaming channels, but also carries a robust on-demand library of movies and shows. Twin Peaks was recently added to the streamer’s lineup, allowing fans to watch it completely free (and accompanied by a few ads).

There’s one catch to this free Twin Peaks situation though — only the original series is available on Pluto. While the “complete series” of Twin Peaks originally consisted of just two seasons, the show returned for a third installment on Showtime back in 2017. Often referred to as Twin Peaks: The Return, this third season continued the saga that unfolded over the initial two seasons.

Twin Peaks: The Return isn’t on Pluto TV at the moment, so the free service will only get you through those first two seasons of the show. Also missing from Pluto TV’s current lineup is Lynch’s feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, which was released in 1992.

So if you’re a completionist, you won’t be able to enjoy the full Twin Peaks experience on Pluto TV. That said, you will get to watch the original series in its entirety without having to pay, and that’s pretty great.

If you do check out the first two seasons on Pluto and want to watch the rest of the saga, you’ll have to check a couple of different places to watch it all. Twin Peaks: The Return can be found on Paramount+, while Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is available on Max and The Criterion Channel. Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces, which stitches together an entire movie out of the deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me, is also available on The Criterion Channel.

Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols in Silo Season 2

Silo Season 3 will differ from the show’s previous runs in a way that is certain to please fans. One of the few flaws audiences have pointed out has been Silo‘s abundance of extremely dark scenes. Defined by lots of browns, grays, and dim lighting, Silo‘s production design seamlessly evokes the story’s post-apocalyptic setting. However, this means the show is best watched with the lights off and the brightness turned up. Creator and showrunner Graham Yost recently told TVLine that Season 3 will address that problem.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

Silo Season 2 ended with the first flashback to the modern-day times, and the first hint of the world events that led to the dystopian future. It’s clear that Season 3 will therefore be jumping between the events happening in silo(s) and events of the past that influenced them. Yost has now confirmed that viewers can expect more daylight scenes than they’ve ever seen in the show:

“Yes, we will be outdoors, and we will be in the world, and there will be sunshine,” Yost said, referring to parts of Silo Season 3 taking place in the past, namely in Washington D.C. “We do go back to Silo 17,” he added. “And remember, they’ve got a very big power issue there, so they don’t have a lot of light.”

Yost also commented on the importance of varying the show’s locations. “Something that [executive producer/writer] Fred Golan said was, ‘Let’s make every effort to make the world that we see outside beautiful so that we’re reminded of what’s been lost,'” he said. When asked to explain why Silo Season 2 appears so dark, the showrunner attempted to clear the air. “Listen, I’m not going to defend it. It’s just the way it plays. And sometimes stuff looks one way in a dark editing room,” Yost said. “When we showed the first episode on a big screen in London, it looked fantastic, because motion picture screens are very bright. So I just encourage everyone to crank up the brightness [at home], and you’ll see a difference.”

Based on the book trilogy by Hugh Howey, Silo premiered in 2023 and just finished airing its sophomore season. The series’ narrative takes place far in the future when humans dwell in underground silos to escape airborne toxins on the Earth’s surface. The silo’s strict government allows anyone to go outside to “clean” if they state their wish to do so, however, the action always guarantees death. Silo stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, a mechanic who becomes her silo’s sheriff. The investigation of her former lover’s murder prompts a chain reaction of events leading to a mass rebellion in Season 2. The shocking cliffhanger ending of Silo‘s second season saw Juliette make her long-awaited return to Silo 18 after surviving her cleaning and spending most of Season 2 at the desolated Silo 17. Following her confrontation with Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins), the two were engulfed in flames when trying to re-enter the silo with no on-screen confirmation of their fates. The finale’s closing scene took viewers back in time before the silos existed, and Season 3 is expected to expand on that plot line.

Yost’s affirmation that Silo Season 3 will look brighter on screens is a major relief. As amazing as the show is, it’s not always fun to max out the brightness on a computer, TV, phone, tablet, or other device in order to see everything. Fans have long complained about Silo‘s dim lighting, so it’s a good sign that the creative team has listened to feedback and aims to rectify the issue going forward. Beyond the visual aspects, the expansion of Silo‘s storyline into the past also presents to compelling opportunity for audiences to learn the context behind the dystopian society at the center of Seasons 1 and 2. So many questions are yet to be answered, and Silo fans can’t wait for Season 3 to premiere.

Silo Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Apple TV+.

Long before Robert Downey Jr. was set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, he was actually another villain on the small screen as he appeared in one of Family Guy’s classic episodes as the Fat Guy Strangler. Family Guy has had a number of major stars joining the series in various guest roles over its 25 year history (with its recent Halloween special even recruiting Twisters and Hit Man star Glen Powell, for example), but Robert Downey Jr. probably has had one of the most memorable guest appearances as he was a part of the extended Griffin household in an unexpected way.

In Family Guy’s Season 4 episode, “The Fat Guy Strangler,” Lois Griffin finds out that she actually has an older brother that her parents had admitted to a mental health facility for years without her knowledge. As soon as she finds out, she goes to free her brother as Patrick Pewterschmidt is introduced to both the Griffin family and the audience. Voiced by Robert Downey Jr., it turns out Patrick has been in the mental facility for a very good reason as he starts strangling overweight men to death after being set off by Peter.

20th Television Animation / Marvel / Robert Downey Jr.

Who Is The Fat Guy Strangler?

In “The Fat Guy Strangler,” Peter finds out that he’s overweight and begins a coalition where he teams up with other overweight men in the area. The “National Association for the Advancement of Fat People” is what is running in the secondary plot of the episode as Lois meets her brother Patrick for the first time. Patrick (voiced by Robert Downey Jr.) seems a little off at first as he has imagined himself living with an invisible wife, but Lois is intent on believing that he’s not causing any harm. That is until he starts a killing spree where he strangles overweight men.

Dubbed as the “Fat Guy Strangler,” it’s revealed that Patrick has a problem with overweight men since seeing his mother have sexual intercourse with Jackie Gleason. Peter actually set him back when he imitated Gleason right to Patrick’s face, and this leads to Patrick almost strangling Peter to death as well. But thankfully Lois gets there in time, and Patrick is sent back to the mental facility. He does make later appearances in the series after this, however.

20th Television Animation

Does Patrick Ever Come Back?

Because Patrick is part of the extended Griffin Family, this isn’t the final time he’s seen in the series. Family Guy brings the character back in the Season 10 episode, “Killer Queen,” when he’s accused of killing once more when a new fat guy strangler serial killer suddenly appears. It turns out he’s completely innocent, and he turns out to play a key role in stopping this new strangler before Chris is killed. But in this follow up appearance, he’s voiced by Oliver Vaquer instead.

As for Robert Downey Jr., he’s been in nothing but massive projects since this Family Guy episode aired in 2005. After headlining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark for a decade, he’s now set to make his return as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Scheduled to be making its premiere some time in 2026, Downey Jr. is likely far from the only actor who will be making their comeback for the new Avengers film. But he is currently the only star confirmed for the new film as of the time of this publication.

Severance Season 2 Theory

Severance Season 2‘s premiere episode was quick to plunge viewers back into the mysterious world of the Lumon corporation and its severance program. After the game-changing twists of the Season 1 finale, the Season 2 premiere was a strangely mundane ‘back to business’ affair. (SPOILERS) Mark S. (Adam Scott) found himself right back at work in the Macrodata Refinement division, even though he had led an entire mutiny to escape the company. Mark didn’t return to work quietly: he had more than a few questions for Lumon’s severed floor supervisor Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman), and Mr. Milchick was more than ready with some key answers.

According to Milchick, it has been five months since Mark led his rebellion and activated the “Overtime Contingency” protocol, allowing him and his MDR team members Helly (Britt Lower) and Irving (John Turturro) to activate their workplace personas in the outside world. However, the Season 2 premiere, “Hello, Ms. Cobel”, was a tricky game of hiding big secrets in plain sight, and a lot of fans are echoing the theory that time is one of them.

Severance Season 2 Theory: How Long Has It Been Since The MDR Uprising?

There is a lot of evidence in the Severance Season 2 premiere that Milchick isn’t telling the truth about the current status quo. First, there’s the conspicuous detail that Milchick is likely aiding Helena Eagan/Helly in infiltrating MDR and studying the team members, to find out how the uprising took root in the severed employees. Then there’s the title of the episode, “Hello, Ms. Cobel”, and how it relates to the situation in the manager’s office; clearly Milchick’s “promotion” is not a fully recognized one yet, as his computer is still registered to Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette). Most tellingly, however, is the fact that the episode never once lets viewers know what the current status quo is with the characters in the outside world. Every time Mark gets on the elevator to leave work, he seemingly goes right back into a new shift.

Locking Mark into a perpetual work cycle and studying him seems like the sort of punishment that Lumon and the Eagan family would inflict upon the mutineers from MDR – the only question is: how long has that punishment been going on? And if it’s indeed only been five months, then what’s happened in that time?

Adam Scott in “Severance” Season 2 / Apple TV+

There are arguments to be made either way: Severance Season 2 could make the passage of time one of its biggest reveals if done correctly. The entire show revolves around the notion of people who only want to experience certain moments of life and edit out other parts, and Season 1 built the foundation of its mystery on the contextual truths that existed in between those “severed” spaces. Since Severance had such a troubled time getting this second season out, making the three-year wait into a major storytelling twist would be masterful. Finding out that Mark has become a full-time severed employee and has been severing for years would be a major twist – and an even bigger emotional turn if it turns out something about life on the outside made him run away, and willfully choose to live a half-life of servitude.

It would be equally clever to go the opposite way: to set the events of Season 2 immediately after the Season 1 finale as if the three-year wait never happened. It would explain a lot of what we saw in the Season 2 premiere: Helena and Milchick’s immediate retaliation against Mark being perpetual work; Irving and Dylan being separated at first, and only brought back (along with “Helly”) to keep Mark docile enough; why Harmony Corbel’s presence is not fully gone yet (she was the one to discover and warn about the uprising, and could be re-instated); not to mention the larger question of what’s to gain from keeping Mark in this situation, which seems to be gaining more insight into what “glitch” is lurking inside the severance process that could cause the employees to possibly turn on the employers. That’s an immediate concern – an answer that Helena Eagan would desperately need to get (for herself) after investigating so much in promoting severance.

What do you think? Is Severance Season 2 being real about its time jump? We’ll find out as new episodes stream on Apple TV+.

Could a new season of Ted Lasso (or a spinoff of the original series) finally be on its way to Apple TV+? There has been constant speculation about the continuation of Ted Lasso since the series came to an end at the conclusion of Season 3. The story of Jason Sudeikis’ Ted might have been over, but the Emmy-winning show’s finale did a lot to set up futures for the Richmond club and all of its other major characters. This week, one of the show’s stars dropped a big tease that Season 4 might be filming in the very near future.

Nick Mohammed, who starred in all three seasons of Ted Lasso as Nathan Shelley, recently announced that a few dates for his upcoming live performance tour (Mr. Swallow: Show Pony) were being moved. He posted a video online to let fans know, talking in character as Mr. Swallow, letting people know how they can check the new tour dates or request a refund. None of this has anything to do with Ted Lasso, but he drops a big clue about the future of the show when revealing why he had to change those specific tour dates.

When Mohammed starts explaining that he had to postpone certain dates on the tour because he is filming something, he says that what he’s working on is secret and that he doesn’t want to send fans into a frenzy by even hinting at what it might be. Of course, he does just that by the prop he’s holding in his hand as he talks about the secret project.

The whole video shows Mohammed holding papers in his hand, but when he talks about the project he’s going to be filming, he moves his hand up higher to intentionally reveal what’s behind those papers: a copy of the iconic “BELIEVE” sign from Ted Lasso.

Mohammed knows exactly what he’s doing, so this video is one of two things: Either he is just taking an opportunity to have fun with Ted Lasso fans (which is entirely possible), or he really is filming more Ted Lasso in the very near future.

The tour dates that Mohammed had to move are all at the front end of his tour, most of them taking place in the first week or so in May. If the schedule shift is due to a potential filming schedule with Ted Lasso, that means the show will be shooting at some point this spring.

There hasn’t been any official word about a Ted Lasso continuation just yet, but speculation really ramped up in the latter half of 2024, when the contracts of stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift were all picked up for a new installment.

Now that the Harry Potter franchise will be rebooted in the form of an HBO series airing on Max, rumors are flying around about who will play the iconic characters. Among the many rumors is Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy could take on the the villainous Lord Voldemort. While no casting has been confirmed as of this writing, one prominent person associated with the franchise — Chris Columbus, who directed the first two installments of the original Harry Potter films — thinks this is a great idea. “Well, Cillian is one of my favorite actors, so that would be amazing,” he recently said on an episode of Watch Happens Live (via EW). “Cillian is a fantastic actor. I actually think that’s a wonderful, wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian.”

Though Ralph Fiennes was an amazing Voldemort in the Harry Potter feature films, Murphy would be an excellent choice to portray Harry Potter’s archnemesis. Murphy has garnered considerable acclaim in the popular TV series Peaky Blinders; however, it was his Oscar-winning performance as the lead in Christopher Nolarn’s Oppenheimer that put the actor on the map in a big way for lead roles.

Because the Harry Potter Max series is still in early development, not much is known about it just yet. It was previously confirmed that there was an open casting call for the three main leads of the series, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. In addition, the Harry Potter series has confirmed some book characters cut from the movies entirely will appear.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years,” according to HBO. “Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

Only a handful of key players have been confirmed for the Harry Potter show, such as showrunner Francesca Gardiner, costume designer Holly Waddington, and writer Laura Neal. Filming is set to take place sometime this summer, with a release date sometime in 2026 or 2027.

Casey Bloys, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, has stated that the series will take place over ten years, with a schedule of one season per year. As there are only seven books in the main book series, fans have speculated that the accompanying guidebook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them could be incorporated into the Max series, but Warner Bros. has stated that the show will only focus on the flagship book series.

Columbus admitted on Watch Happens Live that the runtime restrictions of doing individual films meant that he and the writers had to cut out considerable scenes from the source material. “The fact that they have the leisure of [multiple] episodes for each book, I think that’s fantastic,” the director stated. “You can get all the stuff in the series that we didn’t have an opportunity to do…all these great scenes that we just couldn’t put in the films.”

The Harry Potter films are available to watch on Max.

Apple TV+ TV Shows

Apple TV+ may not be the most popular streaming service, but it certainly does not lack for quality, when it comes to original programming. Odds are, if you are not already an Apple TV+ subscriber, then you’ve heard buzz about at least one or two of the shows it offers, as some of ‘the best of TV. ‘ That said, Apple TV+ is still working on expanding its brand awareness and prestige acclaim – and is currently offering customers deals to make it happen. Outside of Ted Lasso, Apple has yet to see one of its original series earn both big viewership numbers and major awards acclaim; however, any of these shows on the list below deserves both.

Here are 10 shows you should absolutely be watching on Apple TV+.

10. For All Mankind

for-all-mankind-season-4.jpg
Apple TV+

In an alternative 1969, the world, and especially the United States, watch in shock as the Soviet Union successfully manages to land men on the Moon before the USA does. With that defeat, NASA is presented with a renewed challenge in the space race that they never expected to face. Now, the cold war rivalry takes on a new intensity and grander ambition to reach far further than ever dreamed and with more diverse resources than ever before.

For All Mankind has been one of the bigger breakthrough hits for Apple TV+ since premiering in 2019, and is now heading into Season 5. The alt-history drama has a stacked cast of talented actors and superb period-piece production values.

9. Servant

Apple TV+

Synopsis: A Philadelphia couple are in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens a door for a mysterious force to enter their home.

M. Night Shyamalan has been heavily criticized for his films, but not everyone knows how he helped Apple TV+ launch back in 2019 by giving the streaming service a buzzworthy horror-thriller-mystery series. Servant ran for 4 seasons (40 episodes) and is a wonderfully creepy slow-burn horror story, with an excellent ensemble cast (Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Rupert Grint), led by the breakout performance of one of horror’s newest “Final Girls,” Nell Tiger Free (The First Omen).

8. The Morning Show

Apple TV+

Synopsis: After a fallout with their popular but scandal-ridden morning show co-host Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell), a New York City TV station hires a new spunky journalist, the progressive and hotheaded southern girl Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), as the new co-host. The scheming station head manager Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) sees in her the chance to push his career further; the show’s other popular co-host Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston), disgruntled by the fact that she has to take in a newbie, tries to use this new situation to make her own power move and turn Bradley into an ally. Meanwhile, Mitch refuses to accept defeat and tries to take everyone in the station who knew about his scandal but said nothing down with him.

The Morning Show was the star-studded drama that Apple TV+ was built on, and it helped the streaming service gain the initial acclaim it needed, earning a total of 27 Emmy nominations (with 4 wins) and 9 Golden Globes nominations during its three-season run since 2021. A fourth season is set to be released this year.

7. Foundation

Apple TV+

Synopsis: Far in the future, The Empire is about to face a reckoning unlike anything else it’s faced before: several millennia of chaos have been predicted by the galaxy’s leading psycho-historian, Hari Seldon (Jared Harris). But can The Empire offset the disaster before it begins?

Apple TV’s Foundation is one of the more popular and acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy shows to come along in years and is perfect for those who were hardcore fans of franchises like Star Trek, Stargate, or Battlestar Galactica. It’s also generated one of the biggest and most dedicated cult fan bases associated with the streaming service.

6. Severance

Apple TV+

Synopsis: Mark (Adam Scott) leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.

Severance has been one of the biggest new hit shows that Apple TV+ released. Unfortunately, a lot of the series’ momentum was lost when it became a three-year wait for Season 2. Now Severance Season 2 is here, and the buzz is already building fast. A perfect series to jump into if you’re starting a free trial of Apple TV+.

5. Silo

Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols in Silo season 2
Apple TV+

Synopsis: In a bleak dystopian future, humanity clings to survival deep underground within the confines of a colossal silo. Juliette, an engineer tasked with unraveling the mystery behind the death of a colleague, uncovers startling secrets that threaten the very fabric of their enclosed world. Based on the novel “Wool” by Hugh Howey.

Silo ranks up there as another one of the best sci-fi shows on TV right now, and is largely carried by the impeccable Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible), but also boasts a stacked supporting cast (Common, Tim Robbins, Steven Zahn). The pitch-perfect blend of mystery, drama, and socio-political allegory is another great TV experience that only Graham Yost (Justified) can deliver. With a novel series as its source material, there’s already a well-plotted storyline that fans can be confident will be adapted from start to finish.

4. Disclaimer

Apple TV+

Cate Blanchett plays Catherine Ravenscroft, a successful and respected television documentary journalist whose work has been built on revealing the concealed transgressions of long-respected institutions. When an intriguing novel written by a widower, played by Kevin Kline, appears on her bedside table, she is horrified to realize she is a key character in a story that she had hoped was long buried in the past, that reveals her darkest secret that she thought was hers alone.

Disclaimer is the limited series from Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Gravity), adpating the novel by Renee Knight. The show lived up to is prestigous pedigree, earning Golden Globe nominations for stars Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, as well as the show itself. If you’re an erotic mystery-drama fan , this is as good as it gets.

3. Mythic Quest

Apple TV+

Synopsis: The head of a successful video game design company and his troubled staff struggle to keep their hit game ‘Mythic Quest’ on top.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney teamed up with some of that series’ creative minds (Charlie Day, Megan Ganz, David Hornsby) for a show that both mercilessly skewers the gaming industry, while aslo offering a surprising amount of genuine heart and character development along with its laughs.

Shrinking

Apple TV+

Jimmy (Jason Segel) is struggling to grieve the loss of his wife while being a dad, friend, and therapist. He decides to try a new approach with everyone in his path: unfiltered, brutal honesty. Can he help himself by helping others? Will it bring him back into the light?

Shrinking is the current comedy-drama king of Apple TV+, and is only getting more popular by the day. If you like Jason Segel’s blend of drama and comedy, it’s even more of a delight to see him partnered with Harrison Ford, and equally fun watching Ford lean into comedy once again. With just two seaons out so far, Shrinking is a great Apple TV binge-watch to jump into.

1. Ted Lasso

Apple TV+

Synopsis: In a shocking development, struggling English Premier League team AFC Richmond hires American football coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) as its new manager. Lasso knows nothing about soccer/football. With unshakable enthusiasm and positivity he rises to the challenge but little known to him there are forces within the club that don’t want him to succeed.

If you haven’t discovered what makes Ted Lasso the feel-good MVP of television, you need to tune in ASAP. This is arguably THE show that brings people (flocking?) to Apple TV+, and has been the biggest branding win for the streamer.

Daredevil’s Charlie Cox has hinted at how long he will assume the role of lawyer and vigilante Matthew “Matt” Murdock. The actor, who debuted as the superhero in Netflix’s Marvel Television’s original Daredevil series in 2015, shared the tidbit during the Daredevil: Born Again Panel at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2025. Cox was joined by co-star Wilson Bethel, who plays Bullseye, to discuss the eagerly awaited and upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, and highlighted key production moments.

“When you play a character — I’ve been playing him for 10 years — he gets older which is disconcerting,” Cox began. “What’s weird about it is in 2018, when the show was cancelled I had like breaking up period, a mourning period because we thought we were gonna do a Season 4 then that didn’t happen and overnight we got a phone call and it was like, ‘We’re done, it’s finished'”.

During the panel discussion, when asked how excited they were to release Born Again into the world, Cox reflected on his decade-long career as the character before alluding to his eventual and final outing as Matt Murdock, much to many fans’ relief. The superhero star began by recapping how long he’d been playing Daredevil, before reassuring audiences he may be still around for longer than we thought possible.

Cox joked, “But like all breakups, we got back together.” Adding, “But now I’m aware there will presumably come a time where it really does stop happening … and the longer it goes on the harder it will be to let go of … But when I was at Comic-Con I was chatting with a couple of the Daredevil writers, comic team, and they’re getting ready to release a Daredevil comic that takes place when Matt Murdock is in his 60s, so I was like, ‘Oh, okay, great, so we’ve got some time'”.

The actor began explaining, “One of the wonderful things that’s come from the job is my association with the visually impaired community; and I feel very humbled when I hear from people who have a visual impairment, or any disability actually, tell me that [Daredevil] and this character has been important to them, and help them overcome some of the adversity in their life because of their respective disabilities.”

He continued, “That’s something we always took very seriously, and it’s of immense importance that we got that right, and I hope we have, I believe we have, but it’s really cool. Only a couple of weeks ago I was visiting a visually impaired community school in New York and it’s very moving, it’s very touching to meet with the kids who care so deeply with the character because they’ve got that extra connection towards it.”

In a synopsis shared by Marvel, the upcoming series will see Matt Murdock fighting for justice via his law firm, while ex-mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political agenda in New York. When their former identities start to resurface, both men find themselves on an “inevitable collision course.”

Daredevil: Born Again premieres March 4th on Disney+.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was something of anachronism for modern Star Wars projects. Instead of being full of callbacks and Easter eggs, the show went in different directions, showing a bit of suburban life in the Star Wars universe while also taking a walk on the wild side. The show has a Goonies feel to it, delivering an amazing Star Wars experience for long-time Star Wars fans. Skeleton Crew revolved around mysteries, each episode revealing secrets to the viewer that led to even bigger ones.

Skeleton Crew paid these mysteries off brilliantly, but that doesn’t mean that it revealed all of its secrets. There are several major unanswered questions about Skeleton Crew, and they are ones that could make perfect fodder for a possible Skeleton Crew Season 2.

WARNING: Spoilers below for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1

Why Didn’t the Empire Imprison Jod Na Nawood?

Star Wars’ Jor Na Nawood with a Lightsaber

Jod Na Nawood’s origin was one of Skeleton Crew‘s biggest mystery. Jod was introduced using the Force to help free Wim, Neel, KB, and Fern, and as the show went on, fans were given more clues as to who he really was. The final episode of the season finally gave everyone the answers they wanted, revealing Jod was found by an on-the-run Jedi, who began his training in the Force. However, Imperial forces found Jod and his master, and killed her.

Here’s the thing about that, though — why wasn’t Jod immediately imprisoned by the Empire? He said that they forced him to watch the death of his master. They had him in their clutches, so why didn’t they bring him to the Inquisitors and make him join? Did Jod escape? Did they not know what they had on their hands? This is a major question that will hopefully get answered one day.

What Happened to Tak Rennod?

Tak Rennod's hologram in is layer at Lapuna from Star Wars Skeleton Crew

The question of the identity of At Attin’s Supervisor was a major mystery of Skeleton Crew, and for a while, it seemed like pirate captain Tak Rennod might have taken up the mantle. Rennod had built up quite a reputation over the years and eventually found at least two of the Jewels of the Old Republic — At Achrann and At Attin. Thanks to the droid SM-33, we found out that he guarded the coordinates of At Attin murderously, and that he definitely made it to At Attin. However, that’s all we know.

The Onyx Cinder got to the surface of At Attin, but after that, we have no idea what happened to Rennod. Did he try what Jod did and was discovered by the Supervisor and the droids? Did he land the ship in the forest where the kids found it and go into hiding? Maybe he’s dead, maybe he’s retired, but either way there seems to be more of a story there to be told.

How Did Tak Rennod Get the Onyx Cinder?

The Onyx Cinder taking off into the sky in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

The Onyx Cinder was one of the first big mysteries of Skeleton Crew. Wim found the ship while he tried to take a shortcut to school with his hoverbike and its discovery allowed the kids to leave At Attin and go on their adventure. Eventually, it was revealed that the Onyx Cinder was a special ship used by Republic Emissaries so they could get past the Barriers of the Jewels of the Old Republic and land on the planet. Tak Rennod flew it to At Attin, but how did he get it?

An Emissary ship wouldn’t have been just sitting on one of the Jewels, so there has to be some interesting story behind Rennod getting it. Did he get his hands on it without knowing what it was or did he hunt one down so he could go on his quest to find the last remaining Jewels of the Old Republic? Rennod’s quest to find the Jewels is an intriguing one and getting his hands on the Onyx Cinder is a huge part of it.

Were All the Jewels of the Old Republic Mints?

The Skeleton Crew kids - Wim, Neel, KB, and Fern - in a pile of Republic dataries

The legends surrounding the Jewels of the Old Republic said that they were worlds of infinite treasure, and this caused beings the galaxy over to try and find them. Eight of the nine Jewels were destroyed over the years, and Skeleton Crew revealed that At Attin was a Republic Mint, making dataries for the citizens of the galaxy. The Republic was vast — it was said to encompass a thousand thousand worlds — but did it really need nine mints? A planet whose entire population is devoted to minting credits should be more than enough.

Many would say that question is already answered, because the Jewels were rumored to be treasure planets. However, treasure can be many different things other than piles of credits. Maybe each Jewel of the Old Republic had a different “Great Work,” all working to supply the government with something indispensable. We only got to see At Achrann, and it was destroyed, so the mysteries of the rest of the Jewels of the Old Republic have yet to be revealed.

When in the Timeline Does Skeleton Crew Take Place?

(L-R) Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), Wim (Ravi-Cabot Conyers), KB (Kyriana Kratter), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and Jod (Jude Law) in Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW, exclusively on Disney+. Photo courtesy of Lucasfilm. ©2024 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved.

The history of the Star Wars universe is an important part of each story. Fans need to know when a story takes place, because each era is basically a different setting. A story set in the Imperial era is going to be very different from the High Republic era, which would be different from the New Republic era. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew definitely takes place in the New Republic era, but the show never establishes exactly when it takes place.

The New Republic’s pirate problem — which has been going on in the background of shows like The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, and Star Wars: Ahsoka – lets us know that the show takes place around the same time as those shows. However, we don’t know if Skeleton Crew takes place before The Mandalorian started, in the middle of the established timeline of those shows, or after The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka Season 1. This may seem like a minor thing to some, but knowing when a Star Wars story takes place is very important in the grand scheme of things.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is streaming in its entirety on Disney+.

Evan Peters in American Horror Story Murder House

American Horror Story has redefined television horror through its bold anthology format and unforgettable performances over twelve seasons. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the series has taken viewers through haunted houses, asylums, witch covens, and other terrifying scenarios, crafting unique stories that occasionally interconnect in surprising ways. Furthermore, with its ever-rotating team of exceptional talent tackling new characters each season, AHS has built a legacy of memorable moments that continue to haunt viewers. The series’ ability to reinvent itself while maintaining a consistent quality has earned it numerous accolades, particularly for its stellar ensemble cast, including Jessica Lange, who won two Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her transformative performances across multiple seasons.

Each season of American Horror Story is so unique that it’s hard to compare episodes from different settings. Still, some episodes are better than others in showcasing how the series pushes boundaries while delivering genuinely frightening and emotionally resonant stories. These seven episodes represent American Horror Story at its most compelling, ranked in order of their effectiveness.

7) “The Name Game” (Asylum, Episode 10)

In this standout hour of American Horror Story‘s grim second season, Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) delivers one of the series’ most memorable moments through a surreal musical performance of “The Name Game” following electroshock therapy. The scene provides a jarring yet captivating break from the darkness, highlighting Lange’s incredible range while underscoring her character’s deteriorating mental state. Beyond this iconic sequence, the episode balances horror and pathos as Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe) reaches her tragic conclusion when Monsignor Howard (Joseph Fiennes) finally defeats the devil possessing her. Finally, Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) faces his own crisis of faith after witnessing aliens interact with Kit (Evan Peters), while Lana (Sarah Paulson) continues her harrowing fight for survival. The episode perfectly encapsulates Asylum‘s complex exploration of sanity, religion, and redemption through its overlapping of supernatural horror and grounded human drama.

6) “Bitchcraft” (Coven, Episode 1)

The electrifying premiere of Coven immediately establishes the season’s unique tone as young witch Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga) discovers her deadly power and arrives at Miss Robichaux’s Academy. There, she meets a fascinating cast of characters, including the telekinetic movie star Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts), human voodoo doll Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), and clairvoyant Nan (Jamie Brewer), all under the watchful eye of Headmistress Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson). The episode truly ignites with the arrival of Supreme witch Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange), whose desperate quest for eternal youth leads her to unearth the still-living Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates), a notorious 19th-century socialite with a horrific history. Through its stylish direction and sharp dialogue, “Bitchcraft” perfectly sets up the season’s exploration of power, legacy, and the price of immortality.

5) “Smoldering Children” (Murder House, Episode 10)

Evan Peters American Horror Story Murder House episode 10, Smoldering Children

This devastating episode delivers one of the series’ most shocking revelations as Violet (Taissa Farmiga) finally discovers the terrible truth: she has been dead for days, with Tate (Evan Peters) hiding her decomposing body in the basement. The discovery forces both the character and the audience to reevaluate everything that came before, while flashbacks illuminate Tate’s troubled relationship with his mother Constance (Jessica Lange) and the disfigured Larry (Denis O’Hare). As Ben (Dylan McDermott) and Vivien (Connie Britton) struggle to grasp the house’s true nature, the episode weaves together personal tragedy and supernatural horror in a way that exemplifies why Murder House captivated audiences from the start. The hour’s careful mixes of emotional devastation and gothic horror created a perfect storm that defined the series’ trajectory.

4) “Return to Murder House” (Apocalypse, Episode 6)

Jessica Lange in American Horror Story Apocalypse episode 6, Return to Murder House

Joining fan service and compelling storytelling, witches Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and Behold Chablis (Billy Porter) venture into the infamous Murder House to investigate Michael Langdon’s (Cody Fern) origins. Their encounters with the house’s ghostly residents, including Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange), Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott), and Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton), reveal the terrifying truth about the Antichrist’s early years. Beyond providing answers, the episode offers emotional closure to long-standing character arcs, mainly through the poignant reconciliation of Tate (Evan Peters) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga). The hour proves that revisiting past seasons can enhance rather than diminish their impact when handled with care and respect for the original material.

3) “Orphans” (Freak Show, Episode 10)

Naomi Grossman in American Horror Story Freak Show episode 10, Orphans

In perhaps the series’ most emotionally resonant hour, this episode explores Pepper’s (Naomi Grossman) heartbreaking journey from a beloved member of Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) freak show family to an Asylum patient. After losing her husband, Salty (Christopher Neiman), Pepper faces cruel betrayal when her sister Rita (Mare Winningham) frames her for a horrific crime, leading to her institutionalization at Briarcliff. The story reaches its bittersweet conclusion as Pepper finds some solace working with a young Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe), creating a touching bridge between seasons that showcases AHS‘s ability to find profound humanity within its horror. Through exceptional performances and careful attention to continuity, the episode strengthens the connections between seasons while delivering a powerful meditation on family, belonging, and society’s treatment of those deemed “different.”

2) “Could It Be… Satan?” (Apocalypse, Episode 4)

Cody Fern in American Horror Story Apocalypse episode 4, Could It Be Satan

This pivotal episode delves deep into Michael Langdon’s (Cody Fern) mysterious rise within the magical world as the warlocks of Hawthorne School challenge Cordelia Goode’s (Sarah Paulson) supremacy. Michael demonstrates his unprecedented power by achieving what was thought impossible, rescuing Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) from the Hotel Cortez and Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) from her personal retail hell. His extraordinary abilities force Cordelia to confront a terrifying possibility: the prophecied Alpha, who could overshadow all Supreme witches, has arrived. Through its skillful integration of elements from multiple seasons and its examination of power dynamics, the episode builds tension while expanding the show’s mythology in meaningful ways.

1) “Madness Ends” (Asylum, Episode 13)

Sarah Paulson in American Horror Story Asylum episode 13, Madness Ends

The finale of Asylum stands as American Horror Story‘s finest hour, weaving together multiple timelines to create a powerful meditation on survival and redemption. Through Lana Winters’ (Sarah Paulson) evolution from ambitious journalist to successful survivor, the episode provides a masterclass in long-form storytelling. Kit (Evan Peters) offers Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) a chance at peace before her death, while Lana must confront her son Johnny (Dylan McDermott), born from her assault by Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto). The episode’s blend of horror and humanity, combined with its thoughtful exploration of trauma and healing, creates an emotionally satisfying conclusion that honors every character’s journey. It represents everything that makes American Horror Story exceptional — unforgettable performances, complex storytelling, and the ability to find light even in the darkest places.

Charlie Cox as Daredevil with a creepy Joker-like smile in Marvel's The Defenders

While Charlie Cox has earned widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Matt Murdock in Marvel productions, the actor has now expressed interest in taking on one of DC’s most iconic villains: Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime. During a recent Fan Expo panel in San Francisco, where Cox appeared alongside Daredevil: Born Again co-star Wilson Bethel, the conversation ventured into dream roles within the DC Universe. Cox’s response reveals the star’s ambition, as Joker is one of the quintessential DC characters, capable of making or breaking careers. Yet, Cox could be a right fit for the job, as he expressed a lot of consideration for the immense legacy he would need to honor, particularly given the legendary performances that have defined the Joker across different eras of film and television.

During the panel discussion, Cox carefully articulated his interest in the role while acknowledging its challenges. “I wouldn’t want to take it on based on the actors you have in the past because they’re so brilliant, but I was thinking, like, the Joker would be a lot of fun,” Cox shared. The actor highlighted Heath Ledger’s towering influence over the role, adding, “If you could find a way to do something… You know, I mean, Heath Ledger, for me, nailed that part, obviously. If you could find a new take on it in some way, that would be cool.”

The Joker’s cinematic legacy spans multiple decades and interpretations, each adding new dimensions to Batman’s greatest nemesis. The role has continually evolved from Cesar Romero’s debut in 1966 to Jack Nicholson’s defining turn in 1989. Still, Ledger’s Oscar-winning portrayal in The Dark Knight revolutionized the character. Subsequent interpretations by Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix, and Barry Keoghan have each attempted to live up to the audience’s expectations.

Ledger remains arguably the definitive version of the villain in live-action, which explains Cox’s caution when expressing his desire to play Joker. However, as Cox underlined, in the hands of a creative team capable of finding a new angle into the Joker legacy, the role could be incredible fun for a talented actor.

Charlie Cox’s Marvel History Is Far From Over

While Cox contemplates potential DC roles, his immediate future remains firmly in the Marvel universe with Daredevil: Born Again. Following the show’s creative overhaul during the 2023 Hollywood writers’ strike, new showrunner Dario Scardapane has crafted what promises to be a darker, more complex take on the Man Without Fear. As such, the series builds upon Cox’s recent MCU appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo, while maintaining the mature themes that defined the original Netflix run.

The new series dramatically raises the stakes by reuniting Cox with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, who has transformed from Hell’s Kitchen crime lord to mayor-elect of New York City. This political plot creates a complex dynamic where Matt Murdock must battle corruption through both legal channels and vigilante action. The show also welcomes back fan-favorites Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, while introducing new characters, including Margarita Levieva as Matt’s love interest Heather Glenn and Genneya Walton as BB Urich.

The series promises to delve deeper into the moral ambiguities of vigilante justice while examining how Matt Murdock’s faith and principles are tested by a city where his greatest enemy has achieved legitimate power. Cox’s ability to navigate these complex themes in Daredevil suggests why he might be particularly well-suited to tackle a character like the Joker, having spent years perfecting the balance between light and darkness in his portrayal of the Man Without Fear.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres March 4 on Disney+.

Killing Eve, the groundbreaking thriller that redefined the genre with its complex female leads, is now available to stream completely free on Tubi. This marks the first time all four seasons of the critically acclaimed series, which originally aired on BBC America and AMC from 2018 to 2022, are available without a subscription fee. The series took home numerous prestigious awards during its run, including Emmy and Golden Globe wins, while consistently earning praise for its unconventional approach to spy drama, stellar performances, and the electric chemistry between its leads, Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.

Killing Eve follows Eve Polastri (Oh), a British intelligence operative who becomes obsessed with tracking down the enigmatic international assassin Villanelle (Comer). What begins as a standard pursuit evolves into a layered psychological drama, with both women developing a dangerous fascination with each other that blurs the lines between hunter and hunted. The series garnered widespread acclaim for its mix of dark comedy with intense psychological thrills and featuring powerhouse performances from its leads. The show’s success sparked extensive discourse about representation in television, with Sandra Oh’s casting as the titular Eve breaking new ground for Asian representation in leading dramatic roles.

The show’s impact on television is backed by an impressive collection of awards. Killing Eve earned a total of 19 Emmy nominations during its run, with Jodie Comer winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Villanelle. Sandra Oh not only made history as the first actress of Asian descent to receive multiple Emmy nominations in the same category but also won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The show itself took home a Peabody Award in 2019, with the jury praising it as “a self-aware, darkly comic meditation on obsession, power, and identity.” Additionally, Fiona Shaw won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Carolyn Martens.

Why Killing Eve Remains a Must-Watch Series

Killing Eve‘s arrival on the free streaming platform presents a perfect opportunity for viewers who missed the phenomenon during its original run. Across its 32 episodes, the series crafted a narrative that defied genre conventions. The show’s success stemmed not only from its breathtaking cast but also from how it subverted familiar tropes in each season. Killing Eve particularly excelled in its exploration of obsession and attraction, with Eve and Villanelle’s complicated relationship serving as its emotional core. Their dynamic transcended traditional hero-villain dichotomies, creating something more nuanced and compelling.

Beyond its immediate critical success, Killing Eve has maintained a dedicated following that continues to analyze and celebrate its intricate plotting and complex character development. Each season brought new creative voices to the forefront, with different showrunners offering fresh perspectives while maintaining the series’ core appeal. From Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s groundbreaking first season to Emerald Fennell’s dark second season, Suzanne Heathcote’s thrilling third season, and Laura Neal’s controversial final run, the show constantly evolved while staying true to its fundamental exploration of female identity. With spinoffs reportedly in development, the time is also ripe for catching up with this fantastic show.

Beau DeMayo, the creator and head writer of the highly-acclaimed X-Men ‘97, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address fan criticisms of episode four, “Motendo / Lifedeath – Part 1.” According to DeMayo, the episode was supposed to feature more of the relationship between Storm and Forge, but stated that the show’s co-executive producer (who he left unnamed) “stole the episode away and gave it to an editor on #WhatIf to redo it to her vision, which coincidentally eviscerated about 1/3 of Storm’s story and split Ep4 into two separate pieces.”

While this story hasn’t been corroborated elsewhere as of this writing, it does seem to explain why so many viewers thought that the episode felt rushed. DeMayo revealed that the plan for the episode was supposed to be much more faithful to the “Lifedeath” storyline from the original X-Men comics, which included more of the romance between Storm and Forge, as well as additional buildup toward Storm’s confrontation with the Adversary.

The episode was also supposed to begin with a recreation of the page from the comics that saw Forge attending to a weakened Storm. However, according to DeMayo, that was one of the portions that were removed from the episode by What If…?’s editor; DeMayo stated on X, “When I argued that she’d cut life-death’s iconic opening, I got the usual stop being a comic collector speech from them.”

DeMayo revealed further troubles related to the production of “Motendo / Lifedeath – Part 1.” The writer said on X that he reached out to Yellowstone actor Gil Birmingham to play Forge on the series. However, because Birmingham had been previously cast in another Marvel Studios film only to have his role cut without being notified, he was reluctant to work on another MCU project. Yet DeMayo managed to convince him to give Marvel Studios another chance, tweeting, “I assured him 1) such disrespect would not happen on my watch and 2) outlined my multi-season plan for his character…We had an amazing 2 hour meeting. The guy is so cool. And he agreed, much to Marvel’s chagrin that I’d repaired a relationship they’d spat on. I was able to keep that promise, barely.”

Unfortunately, parts of Forge’s story with Storm were cut during the mandated editing process, so time will tell if Birmingham will return yet again after having his role heavily tinkered with for a second time.

Though DeMayo had begun writing the second season of X-Men ‘97, he was fired in March 2024 for alleged misbehavior, including sexual misconduct. DeMayo has denied these accusations and has taken to X since his firing to share his frustrations working with Marvel Studios.

X-Men ‘97 is available to watch on Disney+.
